Hello
I’m due a baby girl and have a short list but was wondering what would you assume the parents are like with children names like this:

Clara
Annie
Amelie
Cecilia
Flora
Camilla

thanks!

Fairly middle class. Camilla I'd assume they were royalists.

leopardspice · 22/08/2022 09:07

Downtown abbey fans

Xenaaa · 22/08/2022 09:08

are they a bit too conservative? I’m looking for something a little more adventurous than the average

Very conservative.

GoneWithTheWine1 · 22/08/2022 09:10

I wouldn't name my child after a butter brand though. Grin

TimmyMeatballs · 22/08/2022 09:10

Middle class, neither very conservative nor very adventurous. Camilla would make me think Royalist too.

BlossomsOnATree · 22/08/2022 09:11

Upper/upper middle class, apart from Amelie which I think is more widespread, and Annie which could be named after a grandma. I like Annie.

Squirrelsnut · 22/08/2022 09:11

I like them; they are quite classic and pleasant to the ear. I'd assume the parents were middle class.

Squirrelsnut · 22/08/2022 09:12

I'm biased because one is my name!

If you want something adventurous then none of those are going to frighten the horses. All are safe and inoffensive, except Cecilia which stands out to me on that list as having it but more interest to it. Still a very established classic name though.

Xenaaa · 22/08/2022 09:13

Thanks so much, I’m actually looking for something a bit “hipster” but not something too cool or trendy that it’s so obscure.

i thought Camilla was classic but underused and perhaps like how matilda used to be?

Those names are lovely. I'd probably assume the parents are sensible, normal people.

statetrooperstacey · 22/08/2022 09:14

I’m not sure I’d think anything , apart from if I heard another Amelie then id wonder what you were thinking ! They’re Literally everywhere . 4 in my family and nearly everyone I know has at least one in theirs. Cecilia is lovely and not over used and flora is nice the others are very safe/ commonly used names.

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 22/08/2022 09:16

Based on kids I know with these names -
Annie and Flora - quite hippy, cool parents who do things like skinny dip into rivers on hot days and make their own cider.
Clara - only one I know has a firmly working class mum, working class and proud type. Very down to earth, no nonsense.
Amelie and Cecilia - their parents are always teachers ime.
Camilla - middle class, goes to grammar school.

BlossomsOnATree · 22/08/2022 09:17

I think of hipster names as more things like Nora, Nell, Violet, Scarlett, Edie, Billie etc. Annie works for that too though.

Paul85 · 22/08/2022 09:17

Boris Johnson lovers

Sandysandwich · 22/08/2022 09:21

Older than average for new parents, so maybe 38 when they had her.
People who would describe their own finances as 'comfortable'.
Nothing very interesting- they probably wear matching fleeces when out on walks and the dad works in an office in the city so wears ties and is not around much

ChagSameachDoreen · 22/08/2022 09:21

Wannabe middle class.

WishDragon · 22/08/2022 09:42

I love Clara. It’s it’s quite common. Amelie is everywhere and will just disappear into the sea of Amelia’s that are all over the place. Quite like Flora.

What about
Thora
Felicity
Alicia (Alice-ee-ah, not Alisha).
Selina
India
Anya

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/08/2022 10:00

Amelie is done to death, Clara and Annie pretty popular, Cecilia and Flora on the rise. Camilla is the only one that is actively unusual - but she will probably end up being called Milly, of which there are zillions.

Amelie and Annie are fairly class neutral the rest I’d say are middle class.

Flora and Annie are potentially a bit hipster - but Annis, Annest or Annabeth are a bit more interesting than Annie as a full name. Cecily more than Cecilia maybe?

Cecelia is one of my current faves- I love the nick name Cissy or Cessy. Cecile or Celeste are pretty too. Flora and Amelie/Amelia are becoming a little overdone. Annie and Clara- adults of a certain age will remember them as Train Carriages in Thomas the Tank Engine lol

Camille maybe over Camilla. Its a lovely classical name- but like Diana its too royal at the moment

They are conservative but beautiful too.

capedavenger · 22/08/2022 10:27

Ok so (assuming that this is a little lighthearted and tongue in cheek) I'd assume the parents of

Clara were middle class, fairly well read but very conservative, maybe university lecturers.

Annie: just your average family as it's quite a widely used name.

Amelie: people with aspirations to be posher than they were.

Cecilia: people with more money than taste.

Flora: hippy types

Camilla: middle class, love the royal family, want to be seen as wealthy.

As I say, tongue firmly in cheek because in reality I'd just assume they were people who liked the name 😆

Now hipster names I'd say:
Freya, Billie, Iona, Clover or Stella.

inmyslippers · 22/08/2022 10:28

Cecilia and Camille. I would assume Afro Caribbean heritage. Very popular 80s/90s names
