What would you assume the parents are like…?

I’m due a baby girl and have a short list but was wondering what would you assume the parents are like with children names like this:

Annie
Amelie
Cecilia
Flora
Camilla

Does Judy require bravery? Seems such a normal and inoffensive name. Nothing there to scare the horses.

How many young girls named Judy do you know? I don’t know any and I think the name has bags of sass and retro appeal

I do some stuff in a home counties boarding school. Every one of those names is represented by at least one student between 11 and 18 in the school. None of them are unusual in this context.

The youngest Judy I know is in her mid 20s, but even so it just sounds like a normal name to me. I wouldn't think 'wow, baby Judy how unusual'. It sounds like a plain and sensible name, not one that requires bravery. We're not talking Boudica.

Amelie - Azalea or Adeline
Cecilia - Cecily
Flora - Florence

I would say older parents maybe late 30s

Cecilia <gavel> can always nickname to Cece when a teen.

I think Rupert falls under the category of 'preppy' names, based on the sartorial choices of Rupert the Bear and his friends.

Cecilia - unrealistic (expecting Cece to be in pink frills and doing baby ballet by 2).

Also like Annie and Judy, but with less potential for 'cool' nicknames.

What does it matter? It's not about you. Has it ever occurred to you how people picture your parents when they are introduced to you? Seriously, when you have children it's a good time to get out of the habit of thinking "but what will people think of me?".

I would say Clara is a horsey name. Camilla is okay but the Royal association is a bit much. Annie is very pretty and you don't hear it much, same goes for Judy. Flora, used to be nice but then you hear the silly 'spread' jokes and think that would be awful for a teenager. Amelie is also lovely but there are quite a few around.

Phyllis would be my alternative suggestion.

They make me think middle class but in a grounded and not pretentious way, especially Clara, Annie and Flora. Camilla and Cecelia are perhaps a bit more upper class but I like the names a lot. I think Amelie is a beautiful name and I actually don't know any, but agree that it will get swamped in the sea of Amelias.

I also like Celia as an alternative to Cecelia. I know a lovely grown up Celia and think it's a good balance between uncommon but not to out there. I also think it works well on a child and an adult.

I met a little Cordelia recently and I thought that was lovely.

Clara and Annie were on my list for girls, along with Pippa, Martha and Rosie. All boys here though so no chance to use them!

And none of your names are hipster or 'adventurous'. They are fairly normal names..

I guess perhaps I am not as adventurous as I thought I was being. But I’m glad that the names have been well received.
