Hello
I’m due a baby girl and have a short list but was wondering what would you assume the parents are like with children names like this:

Clara
Annie
Amelie
Cecilia
Flora
Camilla

thanks!

I'd just choose the name you like tbh rather than letting their name be a reflection of your hipster lifestyle. If you choose a name you love it will be a reflection of you without having to put loads of thought into how it is perceived.

Orla
Alannah
Maisie

Upper class, and pretentious

Xenaaa · 22/08/2022 11:55

Thanks all, really been helpful.

I like some of the suggestions too.

I also liked india and Ottilie but feel like they have been used by celebrities recently so don’t want to use them anymore.

I like Selina and Cecily as suggested. I realised almost all my names contain “L” !

I genuinely wouldn't think anything.

RuthW · 22/08/2022 12:12

I'd think they were very normal.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/08/2022 12:17

If you want something a bit hipster but not too out there, how about Ingrid? Or Wren - I love that one but has DH and I are both tall and strongly built it wouldn't have suited our DD.

Eek3under3 · 22/08/2022 12:17

Cool but classic names. Dd2 has one of these names and we haven’t met any others. Fwiw we are neither upper class nor pretentious!

Thanks so much, I’m actually looking for something a bit “hipster” but not something too cool or trendy that it’s so obscure.

i thought Camilla was classic but underused and perhaps like how matilda used to be?

I definitely wouldn't describe any of these as hipster or adventurous.

Maybe something like an unusual flower name like Amaryllis or Hyacinth, or a goddess name like Calliope or Artemis would fit the bill?

KirstenBlest · 22/08/2022 12:50

@GoneWithTheWine1 , it's a spread not butter. Lovely name though

Eliode2000 · 22/08/2022 13:38

Sorry, a bit plain?

Loulou1712 · 22/08/2022 13:52

Middleclass, and a bit safe
Hipster names in my opinion are a little more quickly in my opinion, things like;
Piper
Juniper
Wren
However, name your baby what you want, and don't care about what is says about you as parents x

soundsystem · 22/08/2022 13:56

All lovely names but not screaming even slightly hipster to me.

Hipsters I know have daughters called: Elodie, Ettie, Jean, Joan, Barbara, Phoebe

Oh and Rita!

Eliode2000 · 22/08/2022 14:01

I love Cecilia but find the others a bit plain. No offence meant though. Your choice. I like long and flowery, exotic names so personally not my style but i can see why you may like them.

mathanxiety · 22/08/2022 14:08

Annie and Flora are the only two I would class as even slightly off the beaten track. The rest are what I'd call safe.

Suggestions:
Isabeau
Jessamine
Lara
Celia
Finola
Nancy
Edith
Isadora
Leonie
Vera
Aphra
Frida
Cleo
Elspeth
Tess
Greta
Arden
Charis
Tamsin

Saskia
Laurel
Christabel
Daphne
Blythe

Thank you all for your help.

I’m looking for something classic that works for my child into old age, but with good nickname opportunities as a teen if they want to be “cool”.

but at the same time I don’t want something overused so I’ve stayed away from top 20.

I’m so surprised Amelie is overused as never met any, it’s just one of my favourite films.

we have a son named Rupert nicknamed Roo.

I’m looking for something similar that’s kind of vintage/granny chic/classic - but not too cool

which of my names on my list fits the bill? Thank you

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/08/2022 15:56

In that case, I'd go with either Flora (though you may end up with Roo and Flo) or Cecilia - though I really do prefer Cecily.

O11 · 22/08/2022 16:09

Vintage/granny chic but not overused:
Winifred
Phyllis
Lillian
Marjorie
Muriel
Agnes
Gwendoline
Joyce
Marion
Audrey
Sylvia

O11 · 22/08/2022 16:12

Oh and another which you never hear for children -
Valerie

Eliode2000 · 22/08/2022 16:14

Vivienne
Cecilia - of your list
Lillian
Sylvie/Sylvia

Delphigirl · 22/08/2022 16:18

Apart from Camilla these were all popular amongst upper middle classes 15-18 years ago and are now dropping through and are becoming very common everywhere.

for classic yet hip you need Virginia, Audrey, Caroline

Delphigirl · 22/08/2022 16:19

Rupert and Virginia would be very chic.
