Clara
Annie

My 4-week old has one of these names and I am definitely not conservative or a Boris Johnson lover (@Paul85 how very dare you)

Borgonzola · 22/08/2022 16:25

@Sandysandwich we DO have matching fleeces! But we're in our early thirties. And dad never wears a tie Grin

WildCherryBlossom · 22/08/2022 16:31

Op it's a lovely list. If you are looking for a more hipster vibe perhaps consider something like Stella, Celeste or Mabel...

CaptainCreepsBourgeMobile · 22/08/2022 16:38

Annie and Clara adults of a certain age will remember them as Train Carriages in Thomas the Tank Engine lol

Adults of a certain age? My 2 year old knows who Annie and Clarabel are.

Your names are middle class and meh, OP but if you genuinely like them then go for one. Don't name your child a hipster name that you don't personally like because you want people to think you're a hipster.

Marinamountainzoo · 22/08/2022 16:42

I guess it all depends on the context of where I heard the child's names.

A child can have the poshest name in the world, but if the names is being screeched at in the toy aisle of B&M, then its not going to change my opinion.

Pemba · 22/08/2022 16:44

I would assume that the parents were fairly middle class, that's all. They're all nice names, but unfortunately Camilla to me is tainted by association. Camille is pretty.

Heard a Tallulah being screeched at in the supermarket. Ruined that name for me.

musicandpassion · 22/08/2022 16:52

My DD (12) has one of those names. I don't consider myself hipster but we did go for a name that was established but not overused. It seems to be increasing in popularity, despite me asking on here when she was born and being torn to shreds 😂 it suits her perfectly, I still love her name even now.

Titsflyingsouth · 22/08/2022 17:16

Annie is lovely - I'd go for that!

Riverlee · 22/08/2022 17:26

Not hipster names, but the less common classic names.

Hipster names for me are names such as:
Skye,
Dawn
India
Trinity
Juniper
Phoenix

etc

UWhatNow · 22/08/2022 17:28

ChagSameachDoreen · 22/08/2022 09:21

Wannabe middle class.

This.

Riverlee · 22/08/2022 17:29

Vintage/granny/cool

Dorothea
Alexandra
Helena
Prudence
Lucinda
Estelle
Hannah
Esther
Tilly

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 22/08/2022 17:41

Pretentious

Smogtopia · 22/08/2022 17:44

Xenaaa · 22/08/2022 09:13

Thanks so much, I’m actually looking for something a bit “hipster” but not something too cool or trendy that it’s so obscure.

i thought Camilla was classic but underused and perhaps like how matilda used to be?

None of the lovely names you've listed are hipster at all... all are great choices but maybe think instead of things like
Joni
Pearl
Clementine
Astrid
Jovie
Vita
Billie
Edie
Remy
Kai
Robyn

WendyAndDave · 22/08/2022 17:53

Lovely names. They seem quite straight/conservative written together like that because they all have the same vibe but presumably she’s only going to have one of them.

Not hipster though.

Pemba · 22/08/2022 18:07

How is 'Annie' pretentious? Wow.

Ptolemy is pretentious.

TempsPerdu · 22/08/2022 18:08

I’d say they were all fairly safe and solidly middle class except for Amelie and Annie, which are more mixed. Amelie and Clara are absolutely everywhere at the moment - very, very mainstream. Camilla is edging towards pretentious.

Flora feels slightly more artsy/creative and Annie has a bit more sass to it, but none of them are hipster names.

Buttons294749 · 22/08/2022 18:14

There are LOADS of ottilies around.
I like Clover, Audrina

Surely hipsters have moved on to Shelia, Sally, Barbara etc as 1940s granny chic ia firmly maunstream. I actually really like Sally

Buttons294749 · 22/08/2022 18:15

And Judy! I wish i was brave enough for judy

thede · 22/08/2022 18:26

All very conservative, with the exception of Annie to me.

Other suggestions:
Alyssa
Brooke
Cora
Elva
Esme
Florence
Georgia
Imogen
Jolie
Leonie
Olive
Phoebe
Rosalie
Suki
Wren
Zara

lljkk · 22/08/2022 18:31

middle income, University-educated, bookish, aspirational. The sort of people who worry about GCSE results in their offspring that aren't good. Who discuss which schools are good. Very fussy compared to me, basically.

Definitely not adventurous! OmG, very risk averse in fact. No Bohemian lifestyle here.

Change123today · 22/08/2022 18:36

I do like Annie,

Chose a name that you like, I wanted to call our daughter Matilda then she was born and just didn’t suit it - her name at the time was in the top 20 ( we didn’t choose it for that reason) it just suited her!

We know a lot of Amelie and Amelia’s! And I always mix up who is what name.

The posh girls names around our way Imogen, Zara and Sophia,

Hippie type parents - Bella, Clara, Olive (though both girls prefer being called Liv) Izzy and India.

Though I’ve just seen someone say Winifred - that’s lovely!!

user1492757084 · 22/08/2022 18:40

Camilla is sweet and underused. The nick names are nice too.

That is my fave from your list.
Think also:
Celia
Millicent
Cecily
Clover
Winsome
Lyla

liveforsummer · 22/08/2022 20:04

Apart from Annie and Camilla all are very common names in my hipsterish middle class area. Seems you're on the right track.
