Ways to honour Michael John

Sunnyflower2 · 21/08/2022 12:12

I’m currently pregnant with twins and if I have a DS I am floating around the idea of naming him after my late grandfather who meant to much to me. His name was Michael John and I’m not sure how best to honour it. Me and DP both don’t like the name Michael or John because we feel they are a bit dated and don’t go with our other DC Winnie and Buzz. We both don’t think Micky is usable due to the mouse association and we can’t think of another way to honour him
any help would be appreciated

Could you work with Mick or Mike? Or maybe was there a nn your grandfather went by??

SNWannabe · 21/08/2022 12:16

I mean , if Winnie and Buzz with their obvious cartoon/Disney links don’t bother you then why does Mickey?
Emme? Or Emmet to have an echo of the letter M or MJ connotation?
Mikey is a cute and more modern version of Mickey?

abovedecknotbelow · 21/08/2022 12:16

Use Micheal John as middle names or one of them, or one each or two boys. They really don't go with your other kids names.

ButterRose · 21/08/2022 12:17

Or possibly Micah

This.

This in spades.

Or maybe go for Mike (as in Wasowski).

toastofthetown · 21/08/2022 12:24

Would using Michael or John as middle names work? Matching his initials would be a nice nod to him, but using Emmett as suggested above seems entirely unrelated. If someone told be they'd named their baby Emmett after their Grandpa Michael John, I'd nod politely but secretly be thinking wtf. If you don't like his name enough to use it, that's fine but that pretty much excludes naming your child after him.

Sunnyflower2 · 21/08/2022 12:46

@SNWannabe I do get where your coming from, Winnie’s full name is Winston and Buzz’s full name is Baxter (only close family call them Winnie and buzz)

I think Michael John would work if we could find a cute nickname like Buzz

@ButterRose He went by Mick all the time apart from one family member calling him Mike
I really wish I could use Mick but I really don’t like it as a name
I do really like the suggestion of Micah and will definitely put that on the list

other option what I’m toying with is choosing a name that has a similar meaning to Michael (who’s like god) and I do quite like Theodore (gift from god) nickname Ted and was wondering if this conection could work

Omg how can Micky be a problem if Winnie and Buzz aren't?! 🤣🤣
I needed that laugh Op thank you!

Maireas · 21/08/2022 12:54

You either want to honour him or you don't. Those were his names, they're nice and classical, use both as middle names.
If you can't bear to use them, don't bother.

Wallabyone · 21/08/2022 12:54

What about Mikey instead of Mickey? Much nicer and goes with your other nicknames much better.

The most tenuous link. Doesn't honour Michael at all imo

A cute nickname like Micky...?

ofwarren · 21/08/2022 12:57

I dont understand people who want to honour a family member but don't want to use their actual name.
Why not just choose a name you like and then use Michael or John as a middle name?

This has to be a wind up. Winnie, Buzz and Mickey. 😂

Sunnyflower2 · 21/08/2022 13:03

Me and DP have come up with a short list that if we have another DS he will probably be named

Barnaby Michael John
Jack Michael
Mikey John
Milo John

I think your 5th child should definitely be Pluto 🤔

This is exactly what I thought.

I’m also wondering how honouring a grandparent somehow becomes an issue in naming the third child. It seems unlikely that buzz was a family name.

Although my gran kicked up a fuss that my parents didn’t name me after her. I have two older female cousins (and two older male ones - although one of them is named after his father, who is named after his grandfather and it’s very much a family name; but the other one is just an unrelated name). But she picked my birth as the moment to chuck her toys out of the pram. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rainbowqueeen · 21/08/2022 13:13

If you have a girl do you like Micaela??

ColmanFlamingo · 21/08/2022 13:20

Michael John

Milo
MJ

John Michael

Joe
Jack
Jax

Dadaya · 21/08/2022 13:22

Winnie and Buzz 🤣

Is this a wind up?

Toddlerteaplease · 21/08/2022 13:25

Surely no one would actually saddle their children with Winnie and Buzz.

ColdCottage · 21/08/2022 13:25

Did he have any nicknames?

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 21/08/2022 13:27

Mikey is nice.
