What are your thoughts on Leonora for a girl, shortened to Leo maybe?

I quite like frillier girls names shortened to masculine names, e.g. love Max though not so sure Maxine is ready for a comeback yet.

I also like the shortening Nora, but prefer Leo or possibly Leah

Sorry sounds like washing powder. And Leo is Very much A boys name. It’s not like Sam for Samantha which is much more obviously unisex.

BabyMoonPie · 20/08/2022 21:19

It's my daughter's middle name. She's named for Leonora Cohen, an amazing lady

Bluebells12 · 20/08/2022 21:20

It’s lovely.

Another option is Leona which I also love.

SeanChailleach · 20/08/2022 21:22

Leonora is beautiful and gives her options.
I know a Leonora who goes by Leo for short. It's not a problem in real life.

husbandcallsmepickle · 20/08/2022 21:24

I'm friends with a (40something) Leonora and the only NN she gets is Leo.
No references to washing powder.

Coastalcreeksider · 20/08/2022 21:24

It was my nan's name, she was often called Nora, it was my mum's middle name.

Thankfully, I wasn't called it.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/08/2022 21:26

What about Lenora? NN Len/Lenny.

quietnightmare · 20/08/2022 21:27

I want to like it but just don't like it.

@quietnightmare

you think someone who is considering Leonora is likely to go for Leigh or Pete??

MatildaJayne · 21/08/2022 00:23

I know a Leonora who pronounces it LAY o nora (Spanish family) and goes by Leo pronounced Layo. Avoids the Lenor thing.

Pemba · 21/08/2022 00:32

Yes Leonora is a good name, nothing wrong with it.

If you want Max as the short name, have you considered Maxima? I think the Queen of the Netherlands has this name. Better than Maxine.

Whiskeypowers · 21/08/2022 00:33

absolutely gorgeous
also love NN Lenny or Leonie

BatWingsAndThings · 21/08/2022 00:48

Love Leonora! I don't understand this comment - what does it mean?!

When I hear Leonora I think nothing more than "beautiful name". Not any of the things above, I don't even know what this means.

Love nicknames Leo, Nell, Nora!

Bodice · 21/08/2022 09:36

Daisy: It’s because lenor is a very popular brand of fabric softener. And it sound very similar.

Amdone123 · 21/08/2022 09:42

I love it. It's classy. Love the Spanish pronunciation too.
