If we like these names what else will we like?

Probably early days to be thinking about this. I'm 17 weeks. But would love some help with baby name ideas. We won't know what we are having until the birth. I like names outside of top 100, not wierd but not popular. Me and my siblings have fairly unusual names and enjoyed being the only ones in our schools, work places etc.

Our shortlist so far for girls is

Blythe (I love a LOT. DH is kind of indifferent, it's just not clicked for him)

Posy (I like this as absolutely loved it as a child after Posy Fossil in my favourite book but slightly concerned it's too girly, what if she grows up to be really tall and broad?! DH really likes it a lot and thinks it's more hippy/flower child/Boho which is our vibe)

Dylan (too boyish?)

Libby (too popular?)

For boys we have

Cillian (we love this and think we are pretty settled unless something else comes along. DH is half Irish and we have a very Irish surname. Love Cilli as a derivative).

Casper (we both like this but not totally set).

Names I like but have been vetoed by DH

Girls
Demelza
Romily
Allegra
Avalon
Zelda
India

Boys
Ivo
Lennan
Sidney
Woody
Tadgh
Ernest

Anything else you think would suit us?

If you like Posy maybe Poppy could be an option or if that's to girly and you like Blythe perhaps Briony/ Bryony it's still got the hippy/ flower child/ boho connection but a bit stronger sounding, also maybe Deryn a softer sound then Dylan and still with the nature connection boys names I've got nothing helpful sorry

Greeneyegirl · 17/08/2022 14:38

I do like Briony and had it on my list for a little while. I love literature and ever since reading Atonement I've liked that name. I think Poppy is a bit too popular for me though. Deryn is interesting, I'll look into that as it's a bit Different and I like the 'y' in it.

Penny 😍

Greeneyegirl · 17/08/2022 14:45

I think Penny would be too popular unfortunately. Penelope was the 44th most popular girls name in 2019 so there will be loads of Pennys around.

I really liked the suggestion on another post, start using the names for yourself in public (ordering a coffee etc.), and see which name you feel the happiest with. Your husband could do the same for boys names.

YouSoundLovely · 17/08/2022 14:55

I love Posy, but really don't like your other girls' names, esp Blythe and Dylan. Cillian is nice, and so is Caspar, but only spelled the traditional way (-ar not -er).

I think Rowan would work well for either sex. Perhaps Damaris, Meriel or Ida for a girlP Florian for a boy?

I think Penny would be too popular unfortunately. Penelope was the 44th most popular girls name in 2019 so there will be loads of Pennys around.

I don't know a single Penny and have 2 children at primary school and have worked in a school. A name at number 44 isn't really that common! I've just looked at the top ten names for girls - these include Lily (I know one), Sophia (again I know one), Ava (I know one!) and Freya (I know zero). Just because a name is in the top 50 it doesn't mean they'll be loads of them around.

I'm not keen on the names you've listed. Libby is OK but usually a nickname for Elizabeth.

Other names you might like - Paige, Genevieve (might have spelt that wrong!), Darcie.

I know a little girl called Dylan, it really suits her!

I have a daughter called Brodie so I like kind of boyish names. What about Quinn?

@Thetractorjustmoved i like a lot of your names suggested!

Love Jude but think it's too popular (I know a few and a few Rowans!)

Really like Ivan, I had that on the list with Ivo and Iver so I'll see if DH will go for it. Also like Cassius.

Think Maeve is too popular sadly as I do love it (it was the fastest rising girls name last year). Love Nora and Jemima.
