Cool but traditional not overused boys name needed!!

We are stuck trying to name our second son. Our first is Oliver, a name which we liked due to the flowy sound and the olive tree (and peace) connections. He is anything but peace loving in reality 😂. Unfortunately two years later this name became highly popular for a while and he had three in his class so we are hoping to choose something this time which doesn't go to the top of the list! I like traditional names that don't sound made up but have a cool edge or nickname. I like European/Mediterranean names but dislike anything that sounds very American. Surname is two syllables and starts with a P. Also looking for two middle names that flow nicely with the first name as our first son has two family middle names. No pressure! 😅

Does any one have any we might not have thought of?

So far on our list we have:

Issac
Elliot
Alexander
Sebastian
Lawrence
Rowan
Felix
Leo
Jude

Not feeling definite about any of these as we did with Oliver! 🫤

Any ideas welcome! Thank yoooooou! 😄

If you're going to use Isaac at least spell it correctly.

@GuyFawkesDay aha but apparently there ARE TWO different ways of spelling it including the double S way I spelt it. If you look on 2020 stats for babies born in UK (thanks for the link @ZoyaTheDestroyer ) about 200 odd babies from memory were born with that spelling. So there are two entries, Isaac was the more popular spelling however. Either that or 200 odd kids in 2020 had their name spelled wrong. 😬🤣

How about Sawyer?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 14/08/2022 07:26

Either that or 200 odd kids in 2020 had their name spelled wrong.

It’s 110 and it’s simply this - the parents are wrong. Issac is incorrect and phonetically implausible as you’d have to pronounce it iss-ak.

There were also 19 Pheobes and 7 Pheonixes. There are quite a lot of people who aren’t very good at spelling 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yep, those poor Isaacs basically have parents who can't spell their name correctly.

There are variations on it like Isaak which is more common towards the Middle East where it comes from the Hebrew so you get Yitzhak etc too but Isaac is the correct and accepted "westernised" spelling and it pisses me right of that people cannot spell it correctly.

I used to teach a Pheobe. She found it absolutely mortifying and changed the legal spelling as soon as she possibly could. It would be a kindness for registrars to intervene gently in these cases.

@GuyFawkesDay oops that include me. I like to think I would have checked the spelling though before going to the registry office! 🤦 Surely the registry office could say...ok....are you really SURE you want to spell it that way? 😳

I don’t understand why you can’t have a name because your son’s friend’s brother is called it. Immediate family and perhaps very very very best friend’s child yes, but otherwise who cares. Highly unlikely the children will spend much time together as adults when it really matters!

I agree with PP that Max goes well.

I came on to say exactly this. Unless you're going very "out there" then vetoing names because someone you vaguely know is called the same name will leave you with nothing! Nobody owns a name so who cares if someone you know has a child with the same name?

Loved the idea of Atticus but couldn't ever get DH on board also like Wilfred and Albert bit depends really how old school you were thinking

Mammyloveswine · 14/08/2022 21:31

Elijah and Gabriel along with Ethan and Aidan were my choices when I was pregnant with ds2!

Ds1 I liked Joseph, Noah, Jude and Edward (Teddy).
