Cool but traditional not overused boys name needed!!

We are stuck trying to name our second son. Our first is Oliver, a name which we liked due to the flowy sound and the olive tree (and peace) connections. He is anything but peace loving in reality 😂. Unfortunately two years later this name became highly popular for a while and he had three in his class so we are hoping to choose something this time which doesn't go to the top of the list! I like traditional names that don't sound made up but have a cool edge or nickname. I like European/Mediterranean names but dislike anything that sounds very American. Surname is two syllables and starts with a P. Also looking for two middle names that flow nicely with the first name as our first son has two family middle names. No pressure! 😅

Does any one have any we might not have thought of?

So far on our list we have:

Issac
Elliot
Alexander
Sebastian
Lawrence
Rowan
Felix
Leo
Jude

Not feeling definite about any of these as we did with Oliver! 🫤

Any ideas welcome! Thank yoooooou! 😄

I work with a "Robin" and he says he is people over email often assume he is female which he finds very annoying.

Are you not wanting a popular name? Quite a few on your list are very popular, such as Isaac, Sebastian, Rowan, Leo and Jude. Certainly in my children's school anyway and I remember my maternity days going to play centres and hearing those names quite often.

My kids names came quite popular for awhile, never personally bothered me, but that's the thing with names, you just never know what may become popular.

I guess I might just have to accept that the names I like because I don't know many people with them are actually very popular right now so will be common! I didn't want a name that could be easily dated to an era for example there are a lot of Florence's, Finley's and Sienna's of a few years ago but I love those names so does it matter?! I imagine Ezra and Noah will be similar. But I guess that just happens to pretty much all names!?Can't have it all. I mainly want to avoid the situation We had with Oliver having multiple children in nursery/school with same name even same initials!

Lawrence and Laurence both valid spellings. We would have used Lawrence because we have French family and Laurence is a girls’ name in France. Really no need to worry about that though unless you have French connections or think you might end up living in France!

@Pyewhacket Squarely at the bottom of my list joint with Donald. Why don't I just call him Stalin? Putin? Osama? How about Sadam? 🤣

@ZoyaTheDestroyer That is true. What nicknames do you have for him? I would LOVE to live in France, where do I sign? I don't have the balls to uproot and leave though. Or Greece where I am currently on hols which is why I have too much time to muse on names 🤣🤣

I had a baby boy a few months ago and we called him Rowan. I always liked the name but wasn’t 100% just because I loved another name more which DP hated. I love it now and we’re very happy we chose it, we haven’t met another one but when booking anything nearly always get asked ‘is Rowan a boy or girl?’. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest, I accept it’s become a unisex name and have started to tell people before they ask but something to consider if it could bother you! Nobody asks when they meet him in person.

Get yourself in a job with a French company where head office is in France not a uk satellite. Transfer over then claim residency ;) especially if it’s international although people have a view of French not wanting to speak English, when they deal with other countries it’s the default they use in business

Elijah, Louis (pronounced French way not as Lewis) , Nemo, Romain, Loic,

@Scepticalwotsits I like Elijah but husband isn't keen. I also like Louis but Kate Middleton took 🤣 Louis and Ollie is good tho. Not finding Nemo! I actually like Romain and has a family link as great grandmother called Romaine, always liked that despite the lettuce! Does it sound same as Roman? Not keen on Loic as the 'ih' sound clashes with surname.

Emmett
Casper
Barnaby
Don't think I've seen those mentioned anywhere here.
We have a Theodore (known as Ted).
Also liked Hywel - could be too Welsh.
And Peter and Adam.

@millymog11 Always the problem with unisex names! I do really like it but actually thinking about it, there is the 'ih' sound ehcih clashes with the surname anyway.

I really like Roman but it didn’t work with our surname. Don’t hear it as often as Roman. I also like Silas and Tristan but names are so personal.

@tealandteal I like Roman and family links. Maybe more as a middle name!

I love your choices. With the exception of Felix and Sebastian is quite popular at the mo.
Elliot Alexander is a lovely combo or
what about Francis or just Frank

@allthegoodusernameshavegone aw thanks! I like Francis but not Frank. It's a unisex name so I wonder if we'd have issues. Might choose as middle name.

Linus

@Mol1628

Linus is interesting! So I plugged it into Google... "Linus is a Greek boy's name that means “flax” or “flax colored.” so far so good, our other boy has flaxen coloured haired .

And then....

"In Greek mythology, Linus is the son of Apollo. A talented musician, he was killed by his father because he rivaled the Olympian god's own musical talents" 😬😱

Francis is always a boys’ name. Frances is the female equivalent. They are pretty much homophones however.

Cool! Didn’t know that! I love the name I was going to use it but it was too similar to our first sons name so didn’t
