Cool but traditional not overused boys name needed!!

We are stuck trying to name our second son. Our first is Oliver, a name which we liked due to the flowy sound and the olive tree (and peace) connections. He is anything but peace loving in reality 😂. Unfortunately two years later this name became highly popular for a while and he had three in his class so we are hoping to choose something this time which doesn't go to the top of the list! I like traditional names that don't sound made up but have a cool edge or nickname. I like European/Mediterranean names but dislike anything that sounds very American. Surname is two syllables and starts with a P. Also looking for two middle names that flow nicely with the first name as our first son has two family middle names. No pressure! 😅

Does any one have any we might not have thought of?

So far on our list we have:

Issac
Elliot
Alexander
Sebastian
Lawrence
Rowan
Felix
Leo
Jude

Not feeling definite about any of these as we did with Oliver! 🫤

Any ideas welcome! Thank yoooooou! 😄

I love your choices. With the exception of Felix and Sebastian is quite popular at the mo.
Elliot Alexander is a lovely combo or
what about Francis or just Frank

Beautifulsunflowers · 13/08/2022 08:34

Ok op, I love your name choice for you first ds - I also have a ds with the same name and his brother is in your list of names you like. When I named him it was 20 years ago and rising in popularity, he was still the only one in his year group out of both primary schools he attended.

So Oliver and

Isaac - biased but this is such a cool name!!! Nn can be Zac
Other names I considered
Joseph
Nicholas
Benjamin

Narrow it down and then wait until he’s born, then you will look at his scrummy little face and just know! Good luck!

I’d go old school and biblical. William is nice. Others:
samuel, Jude, Hugo, rufus, etc

they are no longer posh names

GiselleRose · 13/08/2022 08:37

Joseph

I think you're overthinking it. Go with something you love. Does it matter if your son's friend has the same name or what your family will say?

ArabellaDrummond · 13/08/2022 08:47

I have a Jude, he was born in December 2021. There are not many of them around here. I absolutely love the name George but it’s really popular.

I could get flamed for this peter.

No flaming from me:

Patrick
Nicholas

MackenCheese · 13/08/2022 08:55

Jason or Hugh

confusedlots · 13/08/2022 08:56

I love Peter James, PJ.

If you can't have Peter, then what about Rory, Joshua, Adam or Scott.

Imissprosecco · 13/08/2022 08:58

If you want not overused don't go for Joseph. There are 4 in DS's nursery class and it's not a big nursery!

PeterPomegranate · 13/08/2022 08:58

I love Gregory as previously suggested.

Douglas
Donald (although Trump might have ruined it)
Fraser
Edmund

PeterPomegranate · 13/08/2022 08:58

John is a lovely name and although every other man in my dad’s generation is called John it’s not common now.

Imissmoominmama · 13/08/2022 08:59

Max

zoopigi · 13/08/2022 09:02

George and Edward are good strong names that go well with Oliver

Wheelz46 · 13/08/2022 09:03

Are you not wanting a popular name? Quite a few on your list are very popular, such as Isaac, Sebastian, Rowan, Leo and Jude. Certainly in my children's school anyway and I remember my maternity days going to play centres and hearing those names quite often.

My kids names came quite popular for awhile, never personally bothered me, but that's the thing with names, you just never know what may become popular.

Quisto · 13/08/2022 08:10

My son is a Laurence, also a two syllable surname starting with P. There no other Laurences in his school of nearly 350 children, nor have I found any others in the larger senior school next door. Most of the other names mentioned here are reasonably popular. Lots of Alexanders and Max's and Leos.

@Quisto I love Laurence. Although I would spell it Lawrence not sure why? Unfortunately my husband is not keen. It's still on my list though perhaps I can convince him!

I'm biased as I have a Laurence.. no others in his school! Possibly in upper years. We decided against Lawrence as Lawrie looked ugly, Laurie looked better. Plus we knew lots of people with Lawrence as a surname so it felt wrong that way
