We are stuck trying to name our second son. Our first is Oliver, a name which we liked due to the flowy sound and the olive tree (and peace) connections. He is anything but peace loving in reality 😂. Unfortunately two years later this name became highly popular for a while and he had three in his class so we are hoping to choose something this time which doesn't go to the top of the list! I like traditional names that don't sound made up but have a cool edge or nickname. I like European/Mediterranean names but dislike anything that sounds very American. Surname is two syllables and starts with a P. Also looking for two middle names that flow nicely with the first name as our first son has two family middle names. No pressure! 😅

Does any one have any we might not have thought of?

So far on our list we have:

Issac
Elliot
Alexander
Sebastian
Lawrence
Rowan
Felix
Leo
Jude

Not feeling definite about any of these as we did with Oliver! 🫤

Any ideas welcome! Thank yoooooou! 😄

My son is a Laurence, also a two syllable surname starting with P. There no other Laurences in his school of nearly 350 children, nor have I found any others in the larger senior school next door. Most of the other names mentioned here are reasonably popular. Lots of Alexanders and Max's and Leos.

I like the name Alex without the ander. Traditional and not over popular.

I could get flamed for this peter.

Why? 🙁

I adore that name. My lovely dad was called Peter, it’s one of my sons middle names and my DD says she’s calling her son it if she ever has one.

Your prejudices are a bit out of date. At the perfectly ordinary state comp where I teach we have a Tobias, two Tristans, a Sebastian, a Hugo, and a Jasper. All happy children who aren’t teased for their names.

@ThanksItHasPockets it's not necessarily my prejudice as I like the name, it's more knowing what family will say. 😥 When we used Henry as a middle name there was a bit of whispering that went on from one side of the family. However I do think screw them, they will just find something to b*tch about whatever. I do think some names do sound pretentious to a lot of people however. For example; (and perhaps ironically) Henrietta or Horatio. But it is so personal! One person's stuffy name is another person's favourite and I'm all for each to their own. Sebastian is on my list, Tristan is too much of the 'ih' sound to clash with surname and the other two friends have already used.
