Holly or Hollie?

My wife and I are due a baby girl later this year. We'd settled on the name Holly.

However, my wife sprung a surprise on me Tuesday night be saying she wanted to spell the name Hollie. I don't feel this is the traditional spelling and I worry that they would spend their life correcting people. It is also a different spelling to holly, the plant, which the name is obviously derived from!

It's a shame I can't do a poll but what do people think. It would be helpful to get a sense check.

If you do decide to go for Hollie don’t be one of these parents who get offended when their child’s name is constantly being misspelled by people.

Holly, why make life hard. Also gives opportunity to make a fancy tail out the y when signing stuff (even if sign stuff is dying out).

Our sonographer when we were pregnant (and considering the name) was called Hollie and she said she found it annoying having to spell it out all the time.

I think it looks nicer written down than Holly, but that is NOT a good enough reason to saddle a child with a name they need to spell out. I have to spell mine (two accepted versions) and it's annoying.

I know four Hollie's and all are spelt that way so its not an unusual way to spell it tbh.
