Holly or Hollie?

My wife and I are due a baby girl later this year. We'd settled on the name Holly.

However, my wife sprung a surprise on me Tuesday night be saying she wanted to spell the name Hollie. I don't feel this is the traditional spelling and I worry that they would spend their life correcting people. It is also a different spelling to holly, the plant, which the name is obviously derived from!

It's a shame I can't do a poll but what do people think. It would be helpful to get a sense check.

Holly or Hollie?

This thread is over a year old ….

Why do people do this?

dadtobe22 · 12/12/2023 10:54

Hi folks,

Just had an email notification to say this thread had new activity.

My wife and I went with Holly with a Y in the end. It suits her and we couldn’t imagine calling her anything else.

Mum, Dad and baby (now toddler) all doing well.

So a happy ending.

Thanks to all those that contributed. Perhaps the thread can be closed/locked now.

@FlissyPaps , ask @Holliemorris

Maybe because the person who reopens it thinks they are being helpful then the thread shows in Active, and others pile on to comment.

My daughter is Hollie - still love it and she's 30 Smile

For any future Hollie parents. My 12mo is called Hollie. We are always asked "with a y or ie" whenever registering her for anything. Not had any issues yet. My husband preferred the 'ie' spelling - I like either.
