Nice, meh, try hard?

It's not a very British name, more French /German or is it?

Love it but not sure. 🤔

What middle names would go with Elise?

Lovely. Really lovely.

I always like a family name for a middle name.

YourWinter · 26/07/2022 23:06

I love it! The Elise I know best is in her 20s and is always Elise, not Ellie or Lise.

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 26/07/2022 23:18

Very feminine and elegant. I really like it.

DramaAlpaca · 26/07/2022 23:38

Really lovely name.

Princessoftheuniverse · 26/07/2022 23:55

Lovely name. In a career of teaching I’ve only known one which is a plus for me.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/07/2022 00:09

I taught an Elise (university level) a few years ago and she was the loveliest girl - beautiful to look at, absolutely charming manner, very funny, and super smart. Her middle name was Juliet which also really suited her.

Onceuponatimethen · 27/07/2022 00:22

It’s a beautiful name. Makes me think of the lovely and v famous Beethoven piece “Fur Elise” (for Elise).

I love it op. I might try one of these pairings:

Elise Caroline
Elise Juliet
Elise Gabrielle
Elise Clementine

Thank you, I do love it, dh is bit unsure but I am not 100% convinced it pronounces /flows with ease in the English language.

Would you pronounce like Louise the Lou is replace with E, so a long eeze sound at the end? Is it too French sounding?

RicottaCake · 27/07/2022 09:41

like Louise the 'Lou' is replace with 'El'

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/07/2022 09:44

I would say it El- ee-s with an a sound not a z.

It’s nice.

imnotthatkindofmum · 27/07/2022 09:46

Beautiful! My daughters girlfriend is Ellise (with 2 l's) she's lovely so I may be biased but I think it's a lovely name.

RicottaCake · 27/07/2022 09:47

Interesting, thank you! I prefer it with the s sound at the end too, it sounds less similar to Eliza with a 's'.

DS has an Elise in his class. It's a pretty name but her two best friends are Elsie and Alise and it does get a bit confusing! Elise's Mum says there can be some confusion with it being read or heard incorrectly. Still, a pretty name.

OhMerde · 27/07/2022 09:51

I really like it but at the same time find it a bit awkward/clumsy to say and it doesn't flow.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 27/07/2022 09:53

It's lovely. Reminds me of The Cure

why wouldn't you 'try hard' to find a name you love? always find that such a weird one.

Sadly I feel like this too. It's what makes me hesitate the most. Does anyone else feel it doesn't flow? It's quite French sounding.

It's yet another El name.
It' will get mixed up with Elsie

Louise is nicer

MermaidMeemaw · 27/07/2022 10:27

Elise is quite a popular name in South Africa. I don’t think I’ve ever come across it in the U.K.

Staynow · 27/07/2022 10:29

I think it's lovely, far nicer than Louise. There was the name Ottilie on a thread earlier and I think it would work quite well with it - ie Elise Ottilie James. Maybe it just works better with French sounding middle names?

TeddyTonks · 27/07/2022 10:38

Eh-Leeze is how I'd pronounce it. I don't think you'd have issues in the UK tbh.

Soonberaining · 27/07/2022 10:43

It's a beautiful name and flows perfectly. I met a lovely Elise last week and she suited the name so well. She pronounced it El - ee - s.

If I was having a DD it would be my first choice name.

LadyWithLapdog · 27/07/2022 10:44

Very pretty name. The only one I know of is pronounced with an S rather than Z.

Honeyroar · 27/07/2022 10:46

I know an Elise. She’s around 20. Everyone pronounces it Elle-Lise. I think it’s a gorgeous name.

Cheesywiggles · 27/07/2022 10:48

I love it , my 7 month old dd is Elise! Me and my dh have always loved the name ❤️ It also seems to be less common in the UK which I like! We have not had any issues with her name being pronounced wrong by anyone, that I can think of anyway 🙂

PancakesWithCheese · 27/07/2022 11:54

It’s a lovely name. I know an Elise pronounced with the S sound. It flows fine, I think you’re over thinking it!
