What name 'goes' best with Tabitha? (As well as being the nicest name in it's own right?)

Rosa
Beatrix
Genevieve
Annalise
Dorothy
Theodora
Joy
Martha
Harriet
Hermione
Eliza
Phoebe

(These are all namea we considered for Tabitha before settling on Tabitha, hence why maybe some don't 'go' so well alongside it, hence my question!)

And, any other suggestions?

As the one of two sisters who drew the short straw and ended up with a slightly 'stodgy' sounding, wholesome name compared to my older sister's pretty, whimsical name, and ending up feeling hopelessly inelegant and suffering terrible name envy; with a daughter named Tabitha (pretty and sort of romantic in my book), I'd match it with something in the same vein to avoid unfavourable comparisons between the sisters. Rosa and Joy are my favourites for this reason, although I absolutely love Martha and Harriet but wouldn't pick them with Tabitha.

Iris has definitely zoomed up the charts, beautiful name though (bias as I have one!) and she’s the only one at her nursery/only one we know.

I think it’s popular it not to the extent that you’d see 3 in a class.

No obvious nickname like Beatrix/Bea if that bothers you - we call ours Sisi

bloominglovelyorange · 25/07/2022 14:53

Marnie is lovely, I'd add that back onto the list

bluechameleon · 25/07/2022 15:01

I like Beatrix, Genevieve and Harriet best and I think they all go nicely. I also like Martha and Eliza but don't like the matchy ending with Tabitha.

bluechameleon · 25/07/2022 15:03

I'm not convinced by Marnie as a shortening for Hermione - how about Marion or Marianne for the longer name?

comealongponds · 25/07/2022 17:40

Tabitha and Beatrix

love the name Tabitha btw!

ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 25/07/2022 19:58

I prefer Dorothea
Eliza
Clementine

Redhair1 · 25/07/2022 23:08

I like Beatrix, but maybe too beatrix potter with Tabatha.

Harriet is my favourite name but I would use Hattie instead. That's what I intend to use.

I like Phoebe too

mistygem · 26/07/2022 06:39

this is my subjective ranking using numbers. They are all fine, honestly.

Rosa - 5.8/10, it's short next to Tabitha and more expected
Beatrix - 8.7/10 it's exactly the style of Tabitha, and it goes wonderfully, but I feel many parents of Tabitha already like Beatrix, so maybe there's already Tabitha and Beatrix
Genevieve - 7.0/10 - it goes fine with Tabitha, it's just that I find Genevieve depressed name
Annalise - 7.7/10 - same as Beatrix, but lower in grade due to spelling issues
Dorothy - 8.0/10 - it goes well with Tabitha, but it's more older generation. I love German and Greek Dorothea
Theodora - 8.0/10 - prefer Dorothea, but it does goes well and it's not as dated
Joy - 8.5/10 - it's bit short, but I find it wonderful name, Tabitha and Joy just sounds so happy sibset and I feel they match beautifully
Martha - 8.9/10 - lovely, love the meaning and seems go perfectly with Tabitha
Harriet - 8.0/10 - not a fan of the name, but it goes fine with Tabitha, maybe as expected as Beatrix
Hermione - 8.6/10 - maybe too much Harry Potter, but it's nice name and goes well with Tabitha
Eliza - 6.8/10 - more romantic, more solemn, more Georgian, maybe it goes well with Tabitha, but much less than other names
Phoebe - 8.7 - same as Beatrix

Gillyx · 26/07/2022 18:14

Another vote for Tabitha & Beatrix or Tabitha & Eliza.

I love Marnie and I don’t think it needs to be short for anything. I did just google it and one article thought the long version should be Marina which is pretty. I think Hermione is a bit of a stretch, although I do love the name!

I also really like:
Tabitha & Saskia
Tabitha & Flora

SazAJ · 27/07/2022 07:03

Our shortlist (due soon) is Beatrix, Hermione and Aurora. I also like Meredith! think we have similar taste! I just wanted to wish you luck, choosing names is Exciting!

Im keen to hear what you choose but which ever name it is it will be perfect for your DD.

Xx

Theodora

Tabby and Dora are lovely together

minmooch · 27/07/2022 07:22

Theodora then you could have Teddy and Tabby! 😀

How about Dorothea rather than Dorothy?

Clementine
Cecily
Florence

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/07/2022 23:16

1 Genevieve - yes - the English pronunciation (Jenna-veeve) goes better than the French
2 Annalise - yes really nice
3 Beatrix - it does but you might want to go for Beatrice so people don't think you're a mad Beatrix Potter fan
3 = Dorothy - if you made it Dorothea which is much prettier

Rosa - way too many Rose names about
Theodora - too many Theodores
Joy - but what if she isn't?
Martha - kitchen drudge
Harriet - had its day
Hermione - too much twee in combo with Tabitha
Eliza - it does but it's overused
Phoebe - it does but it's getting overused

Fivebeanchilli · 27/07/2022 23:23

Tabitha and...
Rosa - nice enough name but I'd feel short-changed next to Tabitha
Beatrix - ok but I prefer Beatrice. Goes well though.
Genevieve - it's ok but the French pronunciation is so much nicer that it puts me off. Also is a long name but the shortened versions are horrible - Gen or Genny or Evie...
Annalise - I like this but prefer the Anneliese spelling
Dorothy - love this. Prefer Dorothea as I really like Thea as a nn
Theodora - lovely but don't think it goes as well with Tabitha
Joy - really don't like
Martha - gorgeous and works well with Tabitha. Very biblical but that's not necessarily a problem!
Harriet - gorgeous
Hermione - gorgeous
Eliza - lovely
Phoebe - don't like at all

I think Dorothea would be my stand out favourite but I really like Martha, Harriet and Hermione. Beatrix and Eliza are nice but just not as fabulous as Tabitha.

I don't think you really need other suggestions but I also like Cecilia, Cecily, Susannah, Miranda, Cordelia and Felicity with Tabitha...

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/07/2022 23:26

Ooh I didn't read the update

In which case

Maybe Rosanna rather than Rosa? - it's much less overused (and it gives you the option of Anne as well as Rose related nns)

Dorothea rather than Dorothy - Dorothy is a bit stodgy compared to Tabitha (Dora, Dot and Dorey are all great nns)

I like Lydia and Liddy is the usual short form

Beatrix nn Bea is nice but I would spell it Beatrice just to avoid Beatrix Potter overload.

Iris has been very very popular (although probably falling off now) - Lois might be an alternative?

Eliza is very popular right now - maybe Estella instead?

I do think Winifred and Dolores are very stodgy compared to Tabitha and she might not thank you.

Other possibilities:
Susannah
Marianne
Frances
Clara
Jane

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/07/2022 23:27

Oh - and Verity

caringcarer · 28/07/2022 01:34

ladygindiva · 29/07/2022 21:14

ladygindiva · 29/07/2022 21:15

Seen your update, go with Rosa imo.

Moonface123 · 29/07/2022 21:48
