Name to honour Wendy

Grumpylabrador · 17/07/2022 12:48

I’m posting this on behalf of a friend who’s expecting their baby soon, she would like to honour her mum who’s names Wendy, she says she quite likes the name but doesn’t think it goes with the girl names she’s picked out and she needs suggestions if the baby is a boy. Any help would be marvellous.

Girls Name: Delphi

Boys Name: Jude/Hank (not quite decided)

and the surname is one 2 syllables beginning with J

Many Thanks in Advance x

Moira or Angela

MolliciousIntent · 17/07/2022 12:55

Or Darling!

Sorry, read too quickly.

Are you looking to replace Delphi in :

Delphi Wendy Surname

CalicoAnnie · 17/07/2022 12:56

Gwendolyn

Grumpylabrador · 17/07/2022 13:04

she’s looking for a name to honour Wendy which will fit in a middle spot for Delphi

Bronwen, Elowen or Gwen

ElegantlyTouched · 17/07/2022 13:13

Pandora (obliquely references Peter Pan)

ElegantlyTouched · 17/07/2022 13:14

Alternatively Margaret was JM barrie's mother's name so that or one of its diminutives (Meg, Maggie, Peggy...)

catbirddogchild · 17/07/2022 13:18

DelphiJane Wendy Jackson

Add a simple first middle name then it will flow better. If her mum is Wndy just use Wendy

KirstenBlest · 17/07/2022 13:21

It's not really honouring someone if you use a different name.
Wendy Craig is Anne Gwendolyn. I prefer the Gwendoline spelling, but the original welsh name is Gwendolen (gwen-DOLL-enn). She could also use Gwenda (GWEN-dah)

Delphine is nicer than Delphi, which sounds a bit like a hotel or theatre.

Delphine Wendy Surname is fine
Delphi Gwendoline Surname is ok

TeenDivided · 17/07/2022 13:25

It's only honouring in my book if you use the name itself . Anything else is trying to both have your cake and eat it.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/07/2022 13:26

I agree - it's worse than nothing because you are saying "We wanted to honour you...but obviously we couldn't use your name because it's awful. So we picked a totally different name, but aren't we great to honour you?"

KirstenBlest · 17/07/2022 13:49

@TheYearOfSmallThings It's like using Margaret to honour Beryl (same meaning), or Matilda to honour Hilda (similar sound). Pointing out the connection makes it worse.

SpaceJamtart · 17/07/2022 13:51

Wendel?
Its not a good name but its Wendyish

GreenManalishi · 17/07/2022 13:52

I know a toddler caled Gwen and she is scrumptious. Delphi Gwen

That could work I’ll suggest that to her

I think the suggestion of Delphine Wendy is the best so far.

Cindie943811A · 17/07/2022 15:32

Wendy doesn’t really have a meaning being adapted from a child’s lisped “Fwendy-Wendy so I can’t really see a solution to your problem if you want to retain Delphi other than Delphine or a third name.
there ‘s a dearth of boys’ names similar to Wendy

Footle · 17/07/2022 15:52

There's Wallace's girlfriend Wendolene

goldfinchonthelawn · 17/07/2022 15:56

Delphi Gwen is pretty
Delphi Wynne
Delphi Wren

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/07/2022 19:17

I think Gwen / Gwendoline is her only choice.

And either Peter or her mum’s surname for a boy

user1492757084 · 18/07/2022 09:56

Delphi Elowen J...
Delphi Wendy or Wendy's second name.

Peter Mum's surname J....
Mum's initials - W?J - Wilfred ? J...
