Jupiter for a girl

I’ve seen in the news today Ed Sheeran he announced the name of his second daughter: Jupiter. Big sister is Lyra Antartica.

What do you think of Jupiter for a girl? Personally, I’m not a fan of Jupiter for a boy and even less keen for a girl, but I’ll admit to disliking the boys name on girls trend anyway. I get the logic that Jupiter does sound a lot like Juniper though, which is super trendy right now.

I think Uranus has a nicer ring to it.

I dislike the practice of taking names for one sex from other languages or from history, mythology or wherever and giving them to the “wrong” sex.

Well wasn’t Antarctica named because she was conceived there? When did they visit Jupiter?

I don’t think you should call your child a name unless you would be prepared to change your name and live with it. I don’t see Ed changing his name to Pluto

I’m not a fan but I can’t judge because I’m secretly love the name Mars for a boy. I’m not brave enough to do it, but it’s my favorite name

Agree with PP - not a huge fan for a boy, and think it's just wrong on a girl.

But perhaps people will get used to it - after all Cruz is a traditional girls name (one of the appellations of The Virgin)

I like it for a girl- I don’t care if it’s a male god… sounds fresh and strong. It reminds me of Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon so sounds feminine to me. If forced, I’d rather call my daughter Jupiter than Grace, or Amelia, or something -Rose or -May.

also when you are a megastar- you can name your kids whatever the fuck you want. Your kids are so privileged that you don’t need to be worried about them being judged for their name

Zowie Bowie always was Duncan Jones though, that's what he was named at birth.

...so, fine for pop stars to give their kids odd middle names or nicknames, but ideally give them a vaguely normal first name.
