Jupiter for a girl

I’ve seen in the news today Ed Sheeran he announced the name of his second daughter: Jupiter. Big sister is Lyra Antartica.

What do you think of Jupiter for a girl? Personally, I’m not a fan of Jupiter for a boy and even less keen for a girl, but I’ll admit to disliking the boys name on girls trend anyway. I get the logic that Jupiter does sound a lot like Juniper though, which is super trendy right now.

OP posts:

Zowie Bowie always was Duncan Jones though, that's what he was named at birth.

I didn't know that!

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/07/2022 22:42

How about Thor?

She really won’t thank him / will think he wanted a boy

Juno Is nice

I think Uranus has a nicer ring to it.

😂😂😂

I think Uranus has a nicer ring to it.

🤣

Grimoven · 13/07/2022 22:49

Love it!

DinosaursEatMan · 13/07/2022 22:53

I really like it.

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 13/07/2022 23:06

Fireman Sam's fire engine

SnottyLottie · 13/07/2022 23:07

Just reminds me of that playground song

”Boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider.

Girls go to college to get more knowledge”

MissMaple82 · 13/07/2022 23:16

Imagine the pain and misery of being named Jupiter...

Ewisa · 14/07/2022 06:54

I don't like it

TheBirdintheCave · 14/07/2022 09:44

Yeesh, no. They did so well with Lyra. What an odd choice for a second child! Not so bad if it was a boy as it's at least the name of a male God but on a girl? Why not Juno? Lyra and Juno make a lovely sibset.

DappledThings · 14/07/2022 14:33

Kind of cool for a boy, ludicrous for a girl.

BlossomWind · 14/07/2022 14:40

She'll just end up being called Ju, so they may as well have called her Julia.
I just don't like it at all - quite apart from the bearded old rapist/ orange gas giant associations, I don't like the way it sounds either, pit is not a nice sound.

alphapie · 14/07/2022 14:41

I don't hate it.

On a wealthier child it works a lot better than it would in a 'normal' family

Leeloo1233 · 14/07/2022 20:57

Jupiter is the largest gas planet in our galaxy 😧

ItsDinah · 14/07/2022 21:24

What's wrong with nice traditional celeb baby names like Moon Unit and Dweezil?Jupiter is certainly distinctive and I think it helps open doors to a child in adult life if they have a name that readily links them to a celebrity. Of course,it may not open the doors adult Jupiter would like. Perhaps the name was prompted by recent NASA publication of photos of Jupiter. The older child,Lyra,is named after a constellation.

maeveiscurious · 14/07/2022 21:30

I thought it was Juniper

Halleluja · 15/07/2022 01:16

Possibly named after Jupiter Rising film.
I see as more of a boy’s name like Jupiter Jones in a detective novel I read as a kid.

Fairybobbin · 15/07/2022 09:05

It does sound intensely masculine to me... But I can appreciate a strong name. But what I'm really wondering is why she doesn't have a conception place in her name like Lyra? Perhaps Jupiter Oxford (or wherever this time) didn't sound right to them 🤔 🙈

womaninatightspot · 15/07/2022 09:10

There was a film where Mila Kunis played a character called Jupiter Jones and I quite liked the name.

I think if you were a "normal kid" destined for state school fart jokes about gaseous giants would be put me off. I'm sure little Jupiter will be fine though.

Discovereads · 15/07/2022 09:14

Perhaps the DD was conceived on a Jupiter yacht? Ed did place of conception for big sister Lyra Antarctica. Couldn’t really name a child “North Atlantic Oceanic Route” now could he?

Roballdo · 15/07/2022 09:55

/NN Piter or Peter?

TreePoser · 15/07/2022 11:11

No, it sounds like a night club to me. In fact, I think there was one called this in Dublin in the 90s.

If you love it as a nn despite all reason, give it as a nn for something nice and then she can lose the jupiter when she's older. Julianne is lovely. Julianne Petra
