Madeleine -
alao is this how you would naturally spell it or would you use Madeline.
just curious if we’d be forever correcting pronunciation and spelling.

Madduh-line (with the line like the end of Caroline).

I'm from Sussex.

Perplexed0522 · 20/07/2022 07:09

Mad-a-leen

Leicestershire.

bitelover · 20/07/2022 13:34

In English, I'd say mad-uh-lyn (like McCann).
In French, mad-lehn (like the character in Amelie if you've ever watched it).

pinklavenders · 20/07/2022 14:45

Mad LAINE

I don't like the emphasis on the Mad...

djdkdkddkek · 20/07/2022 14:46

Madda-lin
London

LadyFlumpalot · 20/07/2022 15:12

Mad-uh-lean. I'm from the South East (Berkshire) originally but with a hefty Somerset burr in there as well these days.

Mad-uh-line is the pronunciation we like but if she’d forever get mad uh lin I feel like we should avoid it which would be a shame as it’s a very pretty name

I prefer Madalin too. What about

Avaline ? or Adaline?

pinklavenders · 20/07/2022 16:03

Or Caroline?

Much prettier than Mad aline imo. I really don't like the Mad 😡 sound...

garlictwist · 20/07/2022 16:38

Mad-lin.

From
Cumbria.

mathanxiety · 20/07/2022 16:39

Mad-uh-leen

From Dublin area, Ireland.

mathanxiety · 20/07/2022 16:40

Posted too soon - emphasis on MAD, and I would spell it Madeleine.

I had an aunt born around 1915 who spelled it and pronounced it as I do.

Skelligsfeathers · 20/07/2022 16:43

Mad- uh-kin

SteakExpectations · 20/07/2022 16:47

Madeleine - Mad-uh-lane

Madeline - Mad-uh-lin, unless corrected to Mad-uh-line

Changechangychange · 20/07/2022 19:20

Ma-de-line is German to me - I would always say “Madda-lin” in the UK.
