Madl (rhymes with paddle) in
I'm from Northern Ireland and depending what county/village/Town you are from it could sound really different.
Mad eh line
Mad ln
Mad l enne
Mad eh lynne
I'm sure that doesn't really help!

PRosie · 12/07/2022 23:05

Or Mad ell een
The more I say it the confused I get!

Madl (rhymes with paddle) in

Great description.

Tis is how I would say it. I'm from the Midlands.

ouch321 · 12/07/2022 23:18

Mad a line

PMAmostofthetime · 12/07/2022 23:24

Mada line South Wales

daisyjgrey · 12/07/2022 23:41

The first spelling is French, and you either pronounce it in the French way or the anglicised way. The second spelling is the English version, the pronunciation is the same as the anglicised pronunciation of the French spelling. All the pronunciations are Google-able.

ErinAoife · 13/07/2022 00:06

Madeleine in France is phonetically Mad Lane.

Spanielsarepainless · 13/07/2022 06:36

I would use Madeleine and pronounce it Mad-a-lane. I am English.

TheSoundOfLunch · 13/07/2022 06:38

Madda layn

France

A580Hojas · 13/07/2022 06:47

This is one of my best friend's names. She is from the Midlands, UK. It is pronounced Madlen.

MuffinMcLayLikeABundleOfHay · 13/07/2022 07:28

Madeleine in France is phonetically Mad Lane.

Not really Lane. More like Laine/Lehn. There's no -ay sound in French

Anxiernie · 13/07/2022 08:21

Lane. More like Laine/Lehn

What's the difference in pronunciation between Lane & Laine? They look like they would be said the same here.

Headbandheart · 13/07/2022 08:23

Madeline rhymes with Caroline not carolyn

madaleine - not sure to be honest. I’d look at it and be a bit hesitant and probably say mada- lean

the more usual pronounciation I’m used to is Mada-Lyn but tbh I have no idea how to spell it so this is more my ignorance

I’ve lived all over the country for. Newcastle to kent and Sussex, yorkshire, cheshire and Lancashire so I don’t think there’s any regional variation going on.

KirstenBlest · 13/07/2022 08:38

Madlyn. Home Counties

pinklavenders · 13/07/2022 09:52

What's the difference in pronunciation between Lane & Laine?

Lane is Lane/Layn

Laine is wool in French and pronounced more like Lehn. Google it to hear it pronounced!

ShaunaTheSheep · 13/07/2022 09:53

Madeleine = Mad uh len (south-east)

Madeline - would probably go for Mad uh line, because why else would you spell it that way?

SatinHeart · 13/07/2022 09:54

I would spell Madeleine but pronounce Maddalinn - I'm from the south east (as is my cousin Madeleine)

ShaunaTheSheep · 13/07/2022 09:54

Should add, the uh sound is barely there.

MooseBreath · 13/07/2022 10:07

I'm from Canada.

Madeleine: Mad-uh-lenn
Madeline: Mad-ahl-eye-n
Madelyn: Mad-ah-lin

AnnesBrokenSlate · 13/07/2022 10:15

Madeleine: Mad-uh-lane
Madeline: Mad-uh-lin (the uh in the middle is so fast it's hardly heard)

Former from French friends with the name. Latter - Irish.

deedledeedledum · 13/07/2022 11:41

Thighdentitycrisis · 12/07/2022 20:20

Madeline: Madda lin
Madeleine: Madduh line
in south east

first version is more usual in U.K.
I think the other is French ?

I would say Madd eh layne for Madeleine no?

pinkpanther84 · 13/07/2022 11:42

South west England, Mad uh lin

99ProblemsButAnIncelAintOne · 13/07/2022 11:51
