Wilfred or Robin?

Only two names I can get on board with at the moment - really struggling with boys names and due in a few weeks!

Other suggestions also welcome - I like classic but not necessarily too common (and lots I can’t use). Thanks!

Robin definitely.

ofwarren · 03/07/2022 21:05

Wilfred. I find Robin a bit bland and weak sounding.

LT2 · 03/07/2022 21:09

Robin. I know it's not a popular opinion but I like 'soft' sounding boy names.

RedLorryTime · 03/07/2022 21:10

Robin is much nicer.

TabithaTittlemouse · 03/07/2022 21:10

Definitely Robin.
Didn’t Boris call his son Wilfred?

toastofthetown · 03/07/2022 21:11

Robin.

Pegasushaswings · 03/07/2022 21:12

Wilfred, so many variations you can use from that name too. I like Robin but prefer it as a girls name.

DramaAlpaca · 03/07/2022 21:15

Robert instead of Robin? You could use Robin as a diminutive.

I'm sorry, but I'm not fond of Robin and don't like Wilfred at all.

DontLikeCoffee · 03/07/2022 21:27

Wilfred for sure! Wilf is cute.

Robin is so bland and blah.

Bunnygirl0 · 03/07/2022 21:34

Wilfred! I find Robin wet

Jessbow · 03/07/2022 21:37

Robin is a bit wet.

Wilfred/Wilf is much stronger.

What about Lawrence? Another slightly unusual not not as much as Wilfred

Herewegoagain84 · 03/07/2022 21:41

Haha about 50:50! I think Wilf is quite cute and like that there are other nickname options for when he’s older. Robin is perhaps more unusual. Forgot BoJo used Wilfred… though its pretty of the moment and will anyone really remember in years to come?

I really don’t like Wilfred but Robin is nice

Primatrying · 03/07/2022 22:08

Robin, a thousand times Robin!

Ouchmytoe100 · 04/07/2022 00:46

I think both are lovely.

AuntTwacky · 04/07/2022 01:09

Robin

octoberfarm · 04/07/2022 01:11

I really love Robin. So underused but so lovely!

urbanbuddha · 04/07/2022 01:15

There's always the risk that he'll grow up to be just like his father.

Luxa · 04/07/2022 07:44

Wilfred. I also like Wilbur.

Velvetbee · 04/07/2022 08:18

Robin for me but then I know a truly horrible Wilfred.

bloominglovelyorange · 04/07/2022 09:04

Wilfred is much nicer but I do like both

robin is absolutely NOT more unusual @Herewegoagain84

Have a look at the official statistics and graphs on the dark greener website

Robyn (girls name) is number 74 in the charts having risen a lot over past few years

names.darkgreener.com/#robyn

Robin is number 146 in official ONS charts for boys (and Robin is top 400 for girls too) Wilfred is number 145 for boys. When you add up all the Robyn, Robin (girl and boys) there's far far more on number than Wilfred. Also Robin feels much more popular as names like Ronnie, Reuben, Ruby, Roman, Rory, Rose are all booming in the charts, mostly all top 50 or higher , so you have classes full of Ro--- names that all blend into one a bit. Definitely trendy.
Wilfred doesn't really blend in with names in the same way. Id never confuse Wilfred and William for example.

Lemonlemon88 · 04/07/2022 09:07

i have an uncle robin and he is definitely not wet 😂 he is rob mainly though, Robbie as a child.

LT2 · 04/07/2022 09:51

Did anyone ever describe Robin Williams as 'wet'? A personality makes a person, not their name. My son's name has been described as wet on MN too. Seems a very British thing as Americans seem to love their 'soft' sounding boy names

SummaLuvin · 04/07/2022 09:54

Robin over Wilfred. But Wilbur more than either.

goldfinchonthelawn · 04/07/2022 09:55

I adore Wilfred. I also love the name Robyn for a girl but for some reason not so keen on Robin for a boy. Maybe because I've met too many dodgy Robs in my time.
