Joni is cute

muimpre · 25/06/2022 18:41

4 of your possibilities were on my list for a girl but my first choice was Renee. I had a boy as it happened and already had another name nailed down otherwise he'd maybe have been Rene.

Thatswhyimacat · 25/06/2022 20:12

Starting with favourite:

Joni
Sylvie
Amber
Juliet
Jennifer
Josephine

Fivebeanchilli · 25/06/2022 20:41

Juliet is my favourite

Sylvie and Josephine are both lovely

Joni / Joanie and Jennifer are not my style and I'm not keen on them

Amber by far my last favourite

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/06/2022 20:46

Sylvie
Josephine

Wouldn't choose the others but also wouldn't

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/06/2022 20:47

raise an eyebrow at someone else choosing them

miltonj · 25/06/2022 20:50

Joni (spelt either way) and amber are my favourites.

TempsPerdu · 25/06/2022 20:54

None of them are outright dreadful. Jennifer is still a bit dated and not ready to be rehabilitated yet imo. Plus Jenny is a very dowdy nickname. Amber has such a pretty sound, but again feels quite dated and needs to get over its slightly downmarket 80s/90s image.

Of the rest I like Juliet best (with nickname Ettie or Jet, not Jules) followed by Sylvie (although this is potentially slightly faddy I think, along the lines of Amelie/Elodie). Josephine is growing on me - I like Josie. And Joni/Joanie feels a bit try-hard and isn’t my style, but is OK.

The other names are awful.

I really like Amber. Juliet and Josephine are quite nice although I don't like Jo or Josie. Not really keen on the others.

I really like Joni- as in Joni Mitchell
I like Josephine but called Josie
The others I’m not keen on.

Purpleavocado · 25/06/2022 21:17

I love Juliet and Sylvie

PartySuziPlease · 25/06/2022 21:20

Joni, Amber and Sylvie... I dont like the others. Xx

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/06/2022 22:11

I like Josephine the best. I like that it has so many NN options; Josie, Post, Jo, Joey. If you like Josephine you might also like Jocelyn?

My least favourite is Amber. I just find it a bit downmarket, probably based on the people I know who have used the name.

I'm not really a fan of Juliet either but like all your other names.

Jennifer is a lovely name and due a come back. Jenny is lovely

I also really like Joanie (dislike Joni spelling though) it seems such a strong name. I'd maybe use just Joan on the birth certificate though then Joanie as a nn

Mumofgirls2017 · 25/06/2022 22:53

Joni oe Juliet!

bridgetreilly · 26/06/2022 00:27

Really like:
Juliet
Jennifer

Okay but not top of my list:
Josephine
Joan but not Joni/Joanie
Sylvie

Dislike:
Amber

bridgetreilly · 26/06/2022 00:28

@17caterpillars1mouse I’m trying to work out what Josephine nn Post was supposed to be!

Keladrythesaviour · 26/06/2022 00:29

Juliet and Jennifer are on my list. I also like Josephine but DH doesn't.
I don't like Sylvie.

Merryclaire · 26/06/2022 08:56

Thanks for your help - doing some quick maths it sounds like Juliet is the most preferred, followed equally by Sylvie and Joanie/Joni/Joan (really can’t decide what way to go with that one…)

LadyWithLapdog · 26/06/2022 09:01

I’d go with Joni from those spellings. It’s an unusual name nowadays so you might as well go with the one and only Joni (even though Wikipedia tells me her actual name was Joan).

LadyWithLapdog · 26/06/2022 09:01

I’d avoid JJ though as she we will inevitably be called that.
