Which of these baby girl names do you like best, and which do you like least?

In no particular order of preference:

Joni / Joanie
Juliet
Amber
Sylvie
Jennifer
Josephine

Thanks

Joan (simply that) would be incredibly cool.

Josephine is perennially lovely.

Both have lots of diminutive options.

Not much interested in the rest of your choices.

I'm surprised by this. To me, Joan is my grandma's generation but not in a good due-for-a-revival way.

Mischance · 26/06/2022 09:04

How about Jennie?

ofwarren · 26/06/2022 09:05

I think they are all nice but my order of preference is

Juliet
Josephine
Jennifer
Sylvie
Joanie
Amber

That was actually really hard to put in order because they are all good names.

MuddlerInLaw · 26/06/2022 09:07

We’re all different, brown543!

It’s fine to hold a different opinion to the next person.

Hurstlandshome · 26/06/2022 09:11

Joni is lovely. I've never met a nice Amber (sorry to the nice Ambers out there).

Absolutely! I'm sure people would think my kids' names are very middle of the road,

Onedayatatime24799 · 26/06/2022 10:11

Jennifer - but prefer Jenny
Juliet
Amber
Sylvie
Josephine
Joni

CakeRattleandRoll · 26/06/2022 10:37

Sylvie
Juliet
Josephine nn Josie
Jennifer nn Jenny
Joanie/Joni
Amber

Although agree with pp that Joan would be cool. I think it's a strong name - Joan of Arc, Joan Baez, Joan Crawford, etc.

LiveSimply · 26/06/2022 10:39

First Choice: Joanie
Amber
Juliet
Sylvie
Jennifer
Last Choice: Josephine

Scirocco · 26/06/2022 10:39

I like Amber, Jennifer (or Jenna, or other variations), Joan (but not Joanie). Of the three, I'd probably go for Jennifer or a variation of it.

Sylvie is nice but I think she might encounter quite a few other Sylvies in her age group. Josephine is nice too, but I don't love it.

Unlike a lot of people, it seems, I really don't like Juliet. The Shakespeare reference would bother me (Juliet from the play isn't really someone I'd want to have as a namesake for a girl).

user1492757084 · 26/06/2022 12:56

Joan, I could choose
Amber is sweet and not too over used
Sylvie is also sweet and not too over used.
Jennifer - acceptable
Juliet - acceptable
Josephine - last on my list but not terrible

Ouchmytoe100 · 26/06/2022 13:01

Joni / Joanie - it's pretty but not for me
Juliet - love, would use
Amber - a lovely sound but seems a bit 90s now
Sylvie - love, would use
Jennifer - don't like much
Josephine - love, would use

clpsmum · 26/06/2022 13:12

They are all lovely names tbh hard to chose

FayCarew · 26/06/2022 13:20

Joni/Joanie - both fine but would put Joan or Joni on the BC
Juliet - fine but people will say Julie-ETTE, Joolyet oe JOOLy-et
Amber - ok
Sylvie - not keen and detest Sylvia
Jennifer - fine but you'll find she gets called Jenny or Jen
Josephine - ok but will be Jo or Josie

FayCarew · 26/06/2022 13:21

or not oe

erikbloodaxe · 26/06/2022 13:40

Love Juliet, Jennifer and Josephine equally.
Beautiful names.

Joan is my mother's generation, wears polyester slacks, likes baking and is a bit wet.

TitoMojito · 26/06/2022 13:42

I like Juliet, Jennifer and Josephine. Don't like Sylvie at all.

SpaceJamtart · 26/06/2022 13:54

I really like Joni -spelt that way is better, cool rather than the granny vibes of the Joanie spelling

Juliet is nice
and Josephine (I knew one who was a Josie and she was brilliant)

FolornLawn · 26/06/2022 13:56

Joni / Joanie - I only like Joni.
Juliet - love
Amber - bit stripperish
Sylvie - I love it, but is it one of those names that French people find v dowdy, like Manon?
Jennifer - don't like it at all
Josephine - love it

LadyEloise1 · 26/06/2022 14:05

Juliet
None of the others.
I particularly dislike Josephine and Sylvie

AliBaliBears · 26/06/2022 22:50

Order of preference, from most liked to least

Josephine (love Jo as nn, and love Joanna)
Sylvie
Jennifer
Juliet
Joni / Joanie
Amber

MassiveSalad22 · 26/06/2022 22:53

Love Joanie and Juliet 😍😍

timoteigirl · 26/06/2022 22:57

Not Jennifer. Juliet or Josephine okay from the rest.

What about Scarlett?

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/06/2022 22:57
  1. Juliet - by a long way
  2. Sylvie - very Faye and pretty, but getting v popular
  3. Jennifer - Jennie is lovely
  4. Josephine, it’s Ok

Joni / Joanie- Joan just sounds like moan, not even Joni Mitchell association improves it really. If you must I would go for Joanna nn Joni (Joanna and Joan being variations of the same feminine form of John), as that gives her options.

Amber- very 70s, also slightly a stripper name
