I mean real names not La-A and Lemonjello or Chlamydia or other urban legends.

A friend in the U.S has called her baby son, Sundance. I rather like it in a way though I was taken aback at first.

I met a McLaren recently too, not as unusual as Sundance but not something that you encounter every day either.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My cousin called her new born Denim, I thought like Denholm (Elliott) but no its Denim like the jeans. Her 3 Yr old is called Calhoun. Yet to meet them as they live in Texas but they do suit their names from the pictures they post.

There’s a ‘Logix’ at DC’s nursery. I often ponder if it’s from another culture, but Google doesn’t bring anything up. Just makes me think of a computer program.

I know of a toddler Storm, that's about the most unusual. I haven't heard of a new baby being born very recently!

Some of these names really aren't unusual and are very popular now (Arlo, Gigi, Fox etc.)

The most unusual names I've met aren't babies but they are:

Blaise (a 20 something woman with firey red waist length hair. Her mum is very senior where I work and I've always wondered whether the name or the hair came first)

Avalon (girl)

Anais (girl, French name and I like it)

Ondine (not keen as it's quite harsh but apparently she's named after a ballet)

Haven't met any unusual boys names. There was a Buster in my year at uni but I don't think that's particularly unusual for a boy. I love unusual names, always feel sorry for the Amelias, Olivias, Evies etc.

Isn't St. Blaise the patron saint of throats ?
In Ireland religious people get their throats blessed on St Blaise's day to prevent sore throats.

PoleFairy · 20/06/2022 21:23

Ah @LadyEloise1 they are an Irish family. Mum, dad and other 2 children have traditional Irish names and a strong Irish surname that must be it. I love it

Lalalalalalahh · 20/06/2022 23:32

Peach27 · 23/06/2022 16:33

I also met a baby Dwayne the other day, wondered if it was inspired by Dwayne Johnson as I can't remember ever meeting or hearing of another Dwayne

Rhodora · 23/06/2022 20:08

A girl named Veda and a girl named Sorica

Toottooot · 23/06/2022 20:10

A loon named Shug.

Pallisers · 23/06/2022 21:39

a girl named Sorica

That is probably the Irish name Sorcha. Shame if they misspelled it hoping to make it easier to pronounce.

That's genuinely unusual! Although it rings a very faint bell...or am I thinking of Mrs Danvers perhaps?
