What's the most unusual baby name that you've encountered recently?

I mean real names not La-A and Lemonjello or Chlamydia or other urban legends.

A friend in the U.S has called her baby son, Sundance. I rather like it in a way though I was taken aback at first.

I met a McLaren recently too, not as unusual as Sundance but not something that you encounter every day either.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I've been disappointed that everyone in the baby groups I've gone to have such sensible names after reading about all the crazy names out there on boards such as these. The only one that's at all out there is Atlas. It was on a smaller than average baby.

I recently went to a baby sensory group with my friend and her baby. There were two babies called River (a boy and a girl) plus twin boys called Oates and Atlas.

Yes out in the world I'm meeting Sarahs and Daniels, Joshuas and Olivias, Graces and Alexanders. It's interesting I think. I expect teachers come across a wider variety, and it will all depends on different areas and cultures.

So true, real-world ‘unusual’ ≠ mumsnet unusual. Local lady asked for unusual names for her new baby and ended up calling her Isla 😵‍💫

You're not in a big multi cultural city then?

No. If you read my post you'll see I said about different areas and cultures 😊

I meant a little "Achilles" on holiday, gorgeous little chap too. In France, so maybe it's quite usual there.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 09/08/2022 17:23

I know a Tigerlily and a Hezekial which are rather odd as siblings.

scoutcat · 09/08/2022 19:13

Pebbles and Cobalt but both really suited their names!

Someone I know has just named her baby Fox, but I think it quite suits him. Have previously encountered a Satchel and a Brick - not short for anything, just Brick.

octoberfarm · 10/08/2022 03:52

Oh, and also met two kids (different families) this week called Lion and Awesome. And read about a little girl called Sunday, which I actually quite love. We live in the US!

Peppa

A boy called Rocko which I rather liked.

A girl called Misty-Marvel which I was less sure of...

Rocco is a fairly common Italian name. Not short for anything unless you go back centuries. I know two!

Pebbles

SnottyLottie · 13/08/2022 12:08

Oh and also a Princess Blessing

But apparently these types of names are common in the parents’ culture and home country

Alan.

Not in itself an unusual name but quite jarring on a teeny baby!

For some reason this is proper cracking me up. I love sensible middle-aged names on babies.

Rhaenys · 13/08/2022 20:02

This is not someone I know personally but I’ve seen some people on social media call their babies Koazy (boy, pronounced the same as Cosy) and Sweetie (girl) recently. That’s the first time I’ve heard either of those as names.

I think in the Philippines Angel, Princess and Baby are some of the most common names for baby girls.

Not somebody I know, actually a little girl who featured on GPs Behind Closed Doors called Angel-Skye. She was anything but an angel. Absolute brat of the highest order!
