Lucy or Imogen?

Hi all, we're expecting our first and have managed to pare the list down to two names: Imogen and Lucy.

Which do you prefer? Surname ends in -ley if it makes a difference.

Using whichever we don't go with as a middle name is unfortunately not an option as baby is already going to have two of those (honour names).

Thank you! 😊

Imogen.

Lucy’s a bit wet

Somewhereinfragglerock · 12/06/2022 13:39

Cause the surname ends with y I would not use Lucy

Catlitterqueen · 12/06/2022 13:40

Imogen. My Dc3 was going to be Imogen if he hadn’t been a boy!

toastofthetown · 12/06/2022 13:40

I'd go for Imogen. I find Lucy rather insipid. I'm also don't love the matching ends of Lucy Huxley, or whatever your surname is.

Orangenight · 12/06/2022 14:06

Definitely Imogen

SirChenjins · 12/06/2022 14:08

Imogen - love that name

pinklavenders · 12/06/2022 14:10

Definitely Lucy. Pretty and classic.

I find Imogen incredibly harsh and masculine sounding.

tiredanddangerous · 12/06/2022 14:55

I really like them both! I think I'd go with Imogen though.

Fivebeanchilli · 12/06/2022 15:04

They are both lovely but I'd pick Imogen personally.

wwyd2021medicine · 12/06/2022 15:12

Imogen
I also think Lucy sounds a bit wet

SpaceJamtart · 12/06/2022 15:15

Imogen definitely, its a lovely name, strong but still feminine. And much more interesting

DramaAlpaca · 12/06/2022 15:17

Imogen, with your surname.

If the surname hadn't ended with a similar sound I'd have said Lucy.

SnottyLottie · 12/06/2022 15:17

Definitely Imogen

SycamoreTall · 12/06/2022 15:38

Definitely Imogen for me too - love it.

MsJuniper · 12/06/2022 15:51

I prefer Lucy.

Lucy Worsley seems to manage ok!

OwlNoisesInHerFace · 12/06/2022 16:49

I'm a bit biased, but I have an Imogen, and our surname also ends -ley. She's 3 now and we get lots of positive comments on her name if asked.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 12/06/2022 17:09

Of those two, Lucy.

Imogen is the most hideous name ever. So harsh and industrial sounding. Sounds like Powergen or engine oil or something.

ofwarren · 12/06/2022 17:19

Imogen sounds better with your surname

Holly60 · 12/06/2022 18:09

are you planning on shortening Imogen? Just because she may well get Immy, in which case both names will have the 'y' ending anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about trying to avoid it.

I love both to be honest.

Stopallthisnonsense · 12/06/2022 18:13

Definitely Lucy. Don’t like Imogen at all.

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/06/2022 18:22

I like both and with you not having a clear front runner I would wait and see which one feels right

Oneearringlost · 12/06/2022 18:47

Definitely Imogen but I'm biased as I have a 25 year old Imogen.
Transient efforts to shorten it to Immie in primary school didn't last. She is a very definite Imogen.
Lucy is too wet for me.

HmmmHashtag · 12/06/2022 19:03

I love both, but prefer Lucie spelling.

blugray · 12/06/2022 19:04

Not a fan of Lucy either

I don’t think Imogen sounds masculine at all

ForestFae · 12/06/2022 19:06

Lucy,. Imogen sounds like imaging to me.
