Just wanting to hear thoughts on what first comes to mind when you hear the name Amberley/Amberly? Pronounced like Kimberley.

I really like it and think it’s unique and different and we will most likely have a little redhead as I’m a redhead and partner is blonde/ginger. Just want to hear opinions!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I don't dislike it but I much prefer "Amber"
I went to school with a Kimberly and she spent her childhood being called "dairylea" 🤦🏻‍♀️

daisypond · 12/06/2022 08:30

I prefer Amber. “Unique” names don’t go down well on here. However, I do think Amberley is sort of OK if you like it. Amber Leigh? I don’t think your child’s hair colouring should have anything’s to do with naming, though.

ChairPose9to5 · 12/06/2022 08:34

I dunno if that works.
I like Amber and I like Kimberley.
Amberley sounds too much.

saynotoo · 12/06/2022 08:34

It would most likely get shortened to Amber.

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 12/06/2022 08:34

It’s a village (a very nice one). I know a girl with this name so not unique. I do prefer Amber though.

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 12/06/2022 08:36

Amberley is a lovely old village in Sussex, with a castle. Reminds me of a childhood visit with my parents on a sunny day. So, good associations!

InFiveMins · 12/06/2022 08:37

I like it.

milkysmum · 12/06/2022 08:37

Amber is a much nicer name I think, but if you really love it then use it. Your dd can always shorten it to Amber.

SemperIdem · 12/06/2022 08:37

It has a very 80’s vibe to it, in the same way Kimberley does.

I’m not a fan.

IHateWasps · 12/06/2022 08:38

It sounds like one of those made up "white trash" American names.

Apollonia1 · 12/06/2022 08:38

It's nice.

It reminds me of Pemberley, the house that Mr Darcy lived in, in Pride and Prejudice.

orbitalcrisis · 12/06/2022 08:38

There's a village in West Sussex called Amberley. The names a little too close to the word 'ambly' for my liking, it means dull or dim.

GreatCuppa · 12/06/2022 08:39

Amber is much nicer.

I find Kimberley a really clunky name.

mogtheexcellent · 12/06/2022 08:41

Its a character in a terry brooks novel. Spelt Amberle though.

Ive always loved it.

Ginandslippers · 12/06/2022 08:41

My first thought was it sounds like a lovely little village in a TV series!

OperaStation · 12/06/2022 08:42

I was about to say it sounds like the name of a village but now I see from previous posts that it is indeed the name of a village!

As a persons name it sounds totally made up. If by “unique” you mean “random, made up word that isn’t a name” then yes, it is unique.

Asparaguspatchkid · 12/06/2022 08:45

I worked with someone with this name and she was awful which puts me off a lot, but the name itself is fine. Though as others have said I prefer Amber, that one is on my list.

Scabbyknackers · 12/06/2022 08:46

I really like it. It sounds pretty and unusual but complete as a name, and is a nice place

pinklavenders · 12/06/2022 09:01

I actually think Amberley and Kimberley sound prettier than Amber and Kimber.

blameitonthecaffeine · 12/06/2022 09:26

I love it. Really pretty. I know a 5 year old Amberley but never met another one.

KirstenBlest · 12/06/2022 13:22

Amber is nice, as is Amberlyn

Amberley makes me think of Camberley

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/06/2022 13:24

If you like this sort of name it isn’t horrible.

Spell it like the village.

If she doesn’t like it she can always call herself Amy or Amber.

ABlindAssassin · 12/06/2022 13:26

I really like it and my DC have very traditional names. I don't like Amber as a given name but it's a sweet enough nickname.

All names were 'made up' at some point before becoming mainstream...

CoffeeBeansGalore · 12/06/2022 13:34

I know a redhead Amberleigh. Lovely girl.

AuntieStella · 12/06/2022 13:45

I really like it
