how do you feel about Kit as a first name for a girl? I know it’s considered unisex but i’d love to know y’all’s thoughts on it!

As a nn for Kitty?

WeasilyPleased · 05/06/2022 22:19

Not keen.

ofwarren · 05/06/2022 22:21

You could use it as a shortening of Catherine/Katherine I suppose, as some people use Kitty.

I'm not a fan of it as a stand alone name for either sex to be honest.

PurpleandPlatinum · 05/06/2022 22:24

I know 2 Catharines who are called Kit as a nickname. Definitely good for girls. Actually I haven’t heard it for any boys.

bevelino · 05/06/2022 22:27

Love the name Kit which is a nickname for Catherine.

FriendlyPineapple · 05/06/2022 22:30

I love it

WhiteTeaNoSugar · 05/06/2022 22:32

I know a Kit but it’s short for Christopher, I’ve not heard it as a girl’s name.

Chaoslatte · 05/06/2022 22:36

Are you in the US? I don’t think Kit is considered unisex. I prefer Kitty for a girl. And only as a nickname for Catherine. I don’t like Kit as a given name for a boy or a girl.

User6761 · 05/06/2022 22:38

I've never known Kit as a girls name. If short for Katherine, I prefer Kate/Katy.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 05/06/2022 22:39

I know only one and she works for the trade union 🙂

SoupDragon · 05/06/2022 22:41

I had a great aunt Kit whom would have been born at the end of the 1890s so it definitely works as a girls name. I'm pretty sure it was a nickname/shortening rather than her actual name though.

fatbottomgirl67 · 05/06/2022 22:41

My dd's best friend was called Kit. The nicest girl you could ever meet. Great name

whenwillthemadnessend · 05/06/2022 22:42

I like it

Kitty in pride and prejudice

Always liked it since then cute girly name

Thedishonthecoffeetable · 05/06/2022 22:47

I had an Auntie Kit and tbh I never knew what her 'real name' was, she was just Auntie Kit, think I should do some family research now to find out what it was short for. Also had an Auntie Lou, guess there's a few names that was short for. I did have an Auntie Rose, her name was Rosina. Sorry OP rambling a bit but Kit bought back memories 😁

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 05/06/2022 23:00

When I was little my friend's mum was called Kitty Fitten - just thought her name was great. (But I used to think Kitty was short for kitten.) 😬

janeseymour78 · 05/06/2022 23:31

I like it. You could say she's named after the badass character in A Series of Unfortunate Events.

420Bruh · 05/06/2022 23:32

Love it!

whattodo2019 · 05/06/2022 23:39

Boys name - sorry

MarmiteCoriander · 05/06/2022 23:48

Kit is the name of David Hasselhoffs nightrider car from the 1980's- which was presumably male! Not a little girls name and never heard is as unisex. Are you in the US, hence using the term y'alls???

LyndaLaHughes · 06/06/2022 00:00

Kit is the name of Julia Robert's best friend in Pretty Woman.

Divebar2021 · 06/06/2022 00:07

I love it

Rubyroseyposey · 06/06/2022 00:08

Not keen

FuncaMunca · 06/06/2022 00:19

And Kit was the name of the sister of geena davis' character in A League of Their Own. From 1992 if you remember that one Smile

Marcipex · 06/06/2022 00:40

I’d use Katherine or Kristine or Krista with a K and call her Kit at home.
I’m sure she would prefer the options of Kathy, Katy , Kit/Kitty as an adult.
I’ve never known it as a girls full name. The only Kit I know personally is a boy named Christopher.

Is it unisex? I think of it as a boy's name. Diminutive of Christopher.
