Adam - like
Alistair - like
Abraham (Bram) - not keen
Daniel - like
Rufus - hate it, sorry
Edwin - not keen

Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie) - ok
Zadie - ok, think I prefer Zoe or Zara
Sylvia - not keen, but Sylvie is ok
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - it will be confused with Tamsin
Finnuala - bit too frilly for me. Like Fiona though.
Robyn - like

DoubleDiamond · 01/06/2022 23:43

Adam- love
Alistair- love
Abraham (Bram)- oh I never realised Bram was short for Abraham, although it’s obvious when you think of it. Quite like.
Daniel- love
Rufus- like
Edwin- sounds a bit whingey

Girls
Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie)- like. I know a few Elizas and none of them is called Ellie
Zadie- love
Sylvia- not keen
Tasmin ( not Tamsin)- she will be called Tamsin at least 2/3 of the time
Finnuala- ok
Robyn- ok

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/06/2022 00:41

Adam - lovely
Alistair - very nice
Abraham (Bram) - Bram is gorgeous, Abraham is okay but I also think Bram can be used alone
Daniel - okay
Rufus - very nice
Edwin - not keen, much prefer timeless Edward

Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie) - too trendy for me (but I really doubt Ellie would happen as it's more often "EE -ly -za" not "EL - ly-za"?)
Zadie - okay, very associated with Zadie Smith for me
Sylvia - lovely
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - okay, but will be constantly misspelt
Finnuala - not keen, plus I've only seen Fionnuala so it may be misspelt
Robyn - dislike the spelling, but Robin okay

It would be Sylvia (Sylvie) and Abraham (Bram) for me, a retro sibset with nice nn's, although I think Rufus and Zadie work well with Carys.

Yankydoodledandy · 02/06/2022 01:03

Love Daniel
Adore Zadie absolute love it

Zpoa · 02/06/2022 01:07

Love Bram and Daniel and Zadie, although prefer Sadie.

StartupRepair · 02/06/2022 01:25

All the boys are great with Carys. Prefer Daniel and Rufus.
I think Tasmin and Finnuala are a bit problematic and will lead to a lifetime off misspellings. Love Sylvia and Eliza.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/06/2022 01:30

Carys is great

Alistair or Abraham
Finnuala or Robin

Boys
Adam ok
Alistair love it
Abraham (Bram) love it
Daniel really like it, but less interesting
Rufus - likeable, having a moment though
Edwin - nice, but v similar to Edward and a lot of those around

Girls
Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie) - yes I would too. Estella? Edwina?
Zadie not really a name, so no
Sylvia - ok, much prefer Serena, Sabrina, Sanchia, Susannah, Shoshanna, Seraphina, Safina..
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - short for Tasmania?! No.
Finnuala - like it. I love Ffion though.
Robyn- Yes if spelt Robin, there is no call for the y, it’s like spelling Jane, Jayne

mathanxiety · 02/06/2022 01:37

Love Rufus with Carys.
I love Abraham / Bram too.

From your girl's list I love Sylvia and think it goes really well with Carys, both very elegant and soft names.

Fionnuala is the correct spelling of that name.

marblemad · 02/06/2022 01:58

Boys
Adam 1
Alistair 3
Abraham (Bram) 6
Daniel 4
Rufus 2
Edwin 5

Girls
Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie) 5
Zadie 2
Sylvia 6
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) 4
Finnuala 1
Robyn 3

Amdone123 · 02/06/2022 04:34

Love all your boys names, apart from Rufus. I think Adam is my favourite.
I like Eliza - it's lovely with Carys and I don't think she will get Ellie.
Zadie - I struggle to pronounce it, probably because we have a Sadie, which is also lovely with Carys.
I don't like the other 4.

GreatCuppa · 02/06/2022 06:58

Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - short for Tasmania?

It really isn’t.

I like it, makes a change from the endless Evies and Ava’s.

I like Eliza but it sort of blends in with the above popular names. Adam, Daniel and Rufus.

Pennyhill22 · 02/06/2022 06:59

I only like Daniel and Robyn.

MassiveSalad22 · 02/06/2022 07:01

Bram and Zadie by a MILE!!! Love love love.

Mumofgirls2017 · 02/06/2022 07:37

Adam- blah
Alistair- bit dated
Abraham (Bram)- not that keen
Daniel- boring
Rufus- like
Edwin- wet

Girls
Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie)- love, don’t think inevitable Ellie (I also don’t like)
Zadie- like
Sylvia- ok
Tasmin ( not Tamsin)- no, seems made up
Finnuala- might have pronounciation difficulties
Robyn- getting dated, never really been keen. Prefer Wren

KirstenBlest · 02/06/2022 09:01

Boys
Adam - ok
Alistair - like
Abraham (Bram) - not keen
Daniel - fine
Rufus - not keen, R names too popular
Edwin - fine

Girls
Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie) - not keen
Zadie - not keen
Sylvia - don't like
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - Tamsin is nice
Finnuala - weird spelling of Fionnuala
Robyn - not keen

Not what you wanted but Tamsin for a girl and Daniel or Alistair for a boy

WeasilyPleased · 02/06/2022 13:40

Thanks all. A very mixed bag of opinions and my own name has been suggested so that's out!
I really dislike Tammy which is why Tamsin is not an option. Tasmin is a recognised name, Arabic in origin.
Im surprised Edwin is seen as wet. It sounds less stodgy and boring than Edward to me.
Dh is really pushing for Sylvia and I really like it, just not Sylv. Sylvie is too little girly for me. We tend to be big feisty women in our family!
I have suddenly developed a huge crush on the name Adam and I love it with Carys. Robyn is dh's favourite.
Middle names are set in stone...Peter or Kathleen.
Hmmm a way to go yet so if you have any suggestions along these lines I'd be very grateful.

Adam and Robyn are both great names, and both go well with Carys.

If you like Edwin, maybe Edmund?

Cynthia maybe has a similar vibe to Sylvia?

Would you consider another Welsh name? I really like Eira, Gwen and Evan.

Titsflyingsouth · 02/06/2022 15:13

Adam - like. Solid, classic, no-nonsense.
Alistair - also like. Under-used but not way out there.
Abraham (Bram) - not keen.
Daniel - timeless. Classy. Easy to shorten if he prefers.
Rufus - hate. Dog name.
Edwin - hate. Sounds wet and prissy

Girls
Eliza - Prefer Elizabeth
Zadie - prefer Zoe
Sylvia - prefer Sylvie
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - OK
Finnuala - not sure how to pronounce this. Wonder if the kid will spend her life correcting people....
Robyn - dislike.

babyjellyfish · 02/06/2022 15:30

Adam - nice
Alistair - OK
Abraham (Bram) - don't like it
Daniel - nice
Rufus - nice
Edwin - nice

Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie) - nice
Zadie - don't like it
Sylvia - OK
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - don't like it
Finnuala - don't like it
Robyn - nice

I'd pick Edwin or Robyn to go with Carys.

MumofSpud · 02/06/2022 16:47

We already have DD Carys.
Boys
Adam No
Alistair - prefer Alec
Abraham (Bram) - prefer Abe as a NN
Daniel no
Rufus ok
Edwin this was on our short list

Girls
Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie) - Love but i don't like Ellie/Liz / Lizzie as a NN
Zadie no
Sylvia no - Sylvie is better?
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) yes
Finnuala no (but like Finn/Fintan for a boy
Robyn no - too adult even though I know children are adults longer !

DogsAndGin · 02/06/2022 17:15

Adam - it’s ok. Very dull
Alistair - it’s ok but the name of a middle aged man
Abraham (Bram) - Bram = Dracula
Daniel - nice but boring
Rufus - yes!
Edwin - yes!

Eliza - love it as a nn for Elizabeth
Zadie - no
Sylvia - old lady
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - awful ugly name
Finnuala - awful!!
Robyn - it’s okay. Very masculine.

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 02/06/2022 17:22

Adam - really like, surprisingly under used imo as a teacher.
Alistair - don't like.
Abraham - love, tried to convince DH of this one with ds2 but he vetoed.
Daniel - this is fine, nothing bad about it. Average.
Rufus - I want to like it but don't. I did teach a lovely Rufus once though, as a positive.
Edwin - really like.

Eliza - very nice, not heard it shortened to Ellie, that's usually Eleanor.
Zadie - love!
Sylvia - love this too.
Tasmin - it's ok.
Finnuala - not a fan
Robyn - like this too. Unusual.

Suggestions: Abel, Rupert, Tamara, Elizabeth, Zara.

Fivebeanchilli · 02/06/2022 17:25

Carys and...

Adam - lovely. Solid, attractive, known but not popular. Goes really well with Carys.
Alistair - ditto but I slightly prefer it as I really love Ali as a nn
Abraham (Bram) - I don't like this. Feels a very big name
Daniel - sorry but I find this such a dull name
Rufus - probably my favourite boys' name. I think it could be slightly matchy but I've tried saying it a few times and I think it's ok
Edwin - ok. A bit meh

Eliza (worried about her being called Ellie) - gorgeous and I don't think you need to worry about Ellie with that name
Zadie - I like Sadie but Zadie is too associated with the author. Sadie is much prettier in my view
Sylvia - ok. I prefer Sylvie
Tasmin ( not Tamsin) - not keen
Finnuala - really not keen
Robyn - ok

I would go for Rufus or Alistair and Eliza but it would be a hard pick between Eliza and Sadie if that was on your list because Sadie sounds lovely with Carys

SpaceJamtart · 02/06/2022 17:26

I really like Daniel and Adam, nice easily spelt names.
Abraham and Alistair are fine, but seem a bit weird with your daughters name

Not a fan of Rufus and Edwin, they sound drippy

And Eliza and Zadie are really nice too, and fit with your big feisty women vibe,
the only shortening I have seen Eliza's get is Liza

AnnaSW1 · 02/06/2022 17:28

The only one I like is Adam. I think it's a great name
