Have politicians ruined the name Dominic?

My DH really likes the name Dominic it's his front runner but I feel like the association with the politicians is too strong nowadays to use it without people pulling a face.
Thoughts?
Does anyone have a young Dominic? I actually only know of adult ones.

It does make me think of Raab and Cummings now, unfortunately - but if I met a small child with the name, and got to know them a bit, their personality would probably displace the Tory scumbags.

I tend to think of politicians in terms of their whole name so don't think I would make the connection. I've only ever met one Dominic and he's the first person I think of when I hear the name. He was an ace welsh lad that I hung around with when I was a kid.

I wouldn’t immediately think of the politicians. I know a few Dominics. It’s not an uncommon name. I like it.

My Dominic is 15 now, he sees himself as reclaiming the name from some very bad Dominics by being a decent young chap 😁

He mainly goes by Dom at school these days.

I knew two before the politicians were a thing. One old, one baby. So I think of them. I like the name.

the first politician who occurred to me was Dominic Grieve who is a good Dominic!

I also think of this! My DH is not from the UK so not familiar with the advert.

My Dominic is 17. He's amazing. Kind. Considerate. Etc etc.
No one his age seems to associate the name with the politicians.

See also Dominic Cooper, first person I would jump to. (Although Dominic Cummings is also known to me) Dominic Cooper is lovely as far as I'm aware.

Nope, if you also like it, then go for it.

Like someone else said, politicians FULL names, not just their first names are what stick in peoples minds. So unless your surname is Grieves, Cummings or Raab, you're good to go!

I really like it, and wanted it for DS2, but DH wasn't keen. I think the current crop of politicians don't make it unusable, but it is perhaps quite a posh name. We did rule out Andrew thanks to Prince Andrew though...

if you like the name, use it.

To be honest, if you mention the name Dominic, I wouldn’t even think of the politicians.

However, The politicians association will fade with time. Apart from Tony Blair, I can’t actually remember the major politicians in parliament when my sons were born (twenty years ago).

It's a lovely name. Politicians are so transient no one will make a connection in a few years. Not that many will now!

Probably outing! But it's the one who got away's name. So I personally couldn't call my son Dominic but as a name I actually quite like it

Rabb and Cummings are outweighed by Dominic Grieves, an intelligent, courteous, thoughtful man, full of integrity. The epitome of old -school, broad-church Conservatism.

Dominic is a name which is popular enough not not be affected by controversial figures. Not like Enoch.

It’s a great name, I like it and the name Drew but our surname starts with a D. Random but I always imagine a Dominic as having a brother called Benedict!

I know of 3 who must be in their early 20s now, and a Polish Dominik who's 11 or 12. Dominic and Jeremy seem to be to be two names where you never meet a "neutral" one - they're either really, really nice or really, really annoying, and the same goes for famous people with those names!

I wouldn't associate it with politicians as I know a few. My friend's son, aged 11, is one of three Dominics in his class (Catholic school).
