I like the meaning of foliage and I pronounce it FILL-iss, therefore I like the name. Is that correct. I also love Felicity with nickname Fliss and Lissy.

It makes me think of Phyllis Pearce, a character from Coronation Street.

an icon.

a trend setter.

she'd be an insta kween if she were alive today.

WakeWaterWalk · 22/05/2022 13:26

I knew a few of these growing up.
Always FILL-iss. Often called Phil, as was the Philomena that I knew in adulthood.

If Daphne can make a comeback then maybe Phyllis can too?
Along the names with Greek PH lines: Ophelia sounds more current and Persephone is a bit different to the Penelope trend.

Basketet · 22/05/2022 13:28

It sounds far too much like syphilis.

Finalcountdowntoourtripaway · 22/05/2022 13:57

Our dinner lady was a Phyllis
. All she ever heard was Phyllis a glass of water..

Felicity is a better option..

ItsSnowJokes · 22/05/2022 14:08

My nanna's name was Phyllis (I think born circa 1922), and as amazing and wonderful and beautiful as she was please don't saddle your child with this name.

Jessbow · 22/05/2022 14:08

i know a Philippa thats known as Phyl.
could also be Pippa- but she says Pippa isnt grown up name

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/05/2022 00:35

I knew an old lady one, she lived to be v old... Fill-iss was how she said it, not short for anything.

It seems in the same group as Mabel and Maeve to me, and will Philippa so popular I don't see why Phyllis won't come back. I think it's fine.

Cloud16 · 24/05/2022 00:40

To rhyme with the STI.

Felicity is sparky, I like it!

WhatWouldPhylissCraneDo · 24/05/2022 00:40

I love it. If I have a DD it's top of my list. Whenever I say that the name ends up being mega popular within 5 years. Hmm

SpringHasSprungGrassIsRiz · 24/05/2022 00:40

Coronation Street vibes here too....

Some old lady names stay old lady names....

I had a school friend called Phyllis pronounced fill is.

GreatCuppa · 24/05/2022 13:12

Phyllis is awful, sorry. Felicity is so much nicer.

Alstoybarn · 25/05/2022 00:31

Felicity is so much nicer. Really love that name

FelicityBeedle · 25/05/2022 01:06

Phyllis is lovely, nothing like syphilis. Much nicer and less common than felicity (is that irony? I’m never sure)

Jjnbftgkhfrvjudv · 25/05/2022 01:09

I second the syphillis comment. That was my first thought 😂😂

bigbootyjulie · 25/05/2022 12:35

I'd say FILL-iss. I've literally never heard any other way to pronounce it. I've known a few elderly women with this name, but nobody younger.

Mosmuma · 02/06/2022 17:20

I would rather Felicity or Philippa for the reasons above.

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2022 17:25

My Dneice was a Phillipa for about a week until her siblings kept calling her Flipper and it made my sister change her mind and rename her.Grin

Lulu1919 · 02/06/2022 17:27

Fill iss

honestogod · 02/06/2022 17:30

I love Phyllis, my wonderful grandmother's name, she was Phyl for short, lived to be 100, and was a glorious woman. I think it's fab.

honestogod · 02/06/2022 17:31

And I'm Philippa, which I hated as a child, and love now. I shortened to Pippa as a kid, but am Pip and Philippa now. I know you're not considering it but someone mentioned and I think it's a good name!

Lunificent · 02/06/2022 17:33

My nana was called Phyllis. I really can’t imagine it used for children now, although you could start a trend.

esoryelneh · 02/06/2022 18:07

Reminds me of syphilis

babyjellyfish · 03/06/2022 12:21

FILL-is.

My great aunt was a Phyllis, known as Phyl.
