I like Edie but think it's far too similar to Etta. You also don't want two children with the same initials, it's a pita for letters, appointments, initialling school uniform... But then I also think Ada and Etta are too similar also! You need something less vowelly to go with Etta I think.

When did silly cutesy nicknames become proper names?
Give your daughter a proper name that she can carry throughout her life, not some babyish name for your little cutie. Note: She will not be a baby for ever.

I love Aoife which is a "proper" name, which you could then nickname use Effie.

Edith nn Edie - Edie is sweet but too cutsy as a full name
Ada I don't like because it sounds harsh to me - I like Ida though, or Adela
Effie is similarly too cutsy as a full name, and Euphemia is a strong flavour

Ada

Or maybe Aphra?

Sweet? I find it very harsh and masculine sounding. Nickname for Ed?

Edith is beautiful.

wishitwasaduvetday · 19/05/2022 13:32

@pinklavenders are you thinking Eddie rather then Edie? Edie is pronounced Eeeedie which I don't think is at all masculine?

Footloose78 · 19/05/2022 13:40

Ah I love Etta - we went for very similar but probably too nicknamey for MN 🤣

I think your choices all sound a bit too similar to Etta though for them to go together

pinklavenders · 19/05/2022 14:56

Edie is pronounced Eeeedie

Oh, I assumed it was Ed-ee. Like short for Edward/Ed. Thanks for clarifying.

pinklavenders · 19/05/2022 14:57

Perhaps spelling it Eedie would make the pronunciation obvious?
