Ada.

Or Millicent.

DramaAlpaca · 15/05/2022 15:53

Definitely not Effie.

With an Etta already, of the two I'd choose Edie. Ada is nice, but the 'a' ending makes it just a bit too similar to Etta.

DoodleBelle · 15/05/2022 15:59

Ada

elfran · 15/05/2022 16:17

I don't hate any of them but personally, with Etta I'd keep looking. All of them are just too matchy in one way or another.

I think we often like similar-sounding names to those of our existing children because a) we just gravitate towards certain sounds, and b) they DO remind us of our kids and obviously that creates positive feeling. I know I'm running into this with naming any (currently imaginary) DC2 - I feel like I'd need to strike 80% of my list because they're just so similar! It's tough.

Totally agree, so many names I like are way too similar to my son's name to ever be used for a sibling.

I'd go for Ada or Edith, nn Edie.

Effie is awful - makes me think of effalump.

duckie3 · 15/05/2022 16:27

Effie is gorgeous !

ineedsun · 15/05/2022 16:27

Effie is from Hunger Games

girljulian · 15/05/2022 16:30

Effie is horrendous.

Ada and Edie are both cute, but very common, if that bothers you. I do think they both match a bit too well with Etta, too. If you shouted “Etta” and then “Ada” down the stairs, they’d sound the same if your future teen has headphones in.

Mumofgirls2017 · 15/05/2022 17:24

edie but short for Eden or edith

then ada

effie nice but sounds like short for something

Summerwetordry · 15/05/2022 18:24

Effie reminds me of the phrase effing and blinding Ada is the far better name

Aquaticshark11 · 15/05/2022 18:36

All three names are too similar to Etta. Especially Effie, which is hideous anyway.

PeskyRooks · 15/05/2022 18:52

I think Edie is nicest but does mix in with the Evie/Eva/Avas as does Ada which I dislike anyway reminds me of First Ada.
you can't have Etta and Effie.
I'd go back to the drawing board if I was you, so many beautiful girl's names out there!

Roughasabadgersbum · 15/05/2022 19:02

I have an Edie and an Ada! Beautiful names..but then I'm biased😊

Firebird83 · 15/05/2022 23:10

Ada

TrashyPanda · 15/05/2022 23:15

Effie is awful.

makes me think of heffalump

blameitonthecaffeine · 15/05/2022 23:18

I love Effie.

Really like Edie and Ada too though.

LightEveningsAreBack · 15/05/2022 23:24

I'd go for Edith and call her Edie. It was my girl choice but we had a boy. I don't like Ada and Effie is a bit weird, I didn't realise it was a name until recently when there was one in my child's nursery.

LauraLovesLemons · 15/05/2022 23:38

My niece is a ten year old Edie, loosely named after her great-grandmother. It's constantly mistaken for Eddie or muddled up with Evie which she finds very frustrating. For that reason, I'd go with Ada.

Anystarinthesky · 16/05/2022 00:07

I like Ada and think it goes better with Etta.

Butterbeer4All · 16/05/2022 01:20

I like Ada and Edie

beetree1 · 16/05/2022 09:22

Edie or Ada for me, I also love Ida.

I'm not keen on the strong F sound in Effie but that's just personal preference

babyjellyfish · 16/05/2022 09:34

Ada or Edie.

Hadtocomment · 16/05/2022 10:34

They are all nice names, but they all sound very similar to Etta (great name by the way!) and if i was the child in question I'd like more individual identity in my name - not to be too similar to the sister's name.

If it was me I'd go for a different start letter as Ada so similar due to the vowel start, two syllables and same ending and Effie and Edie both really similar due to same start letter and two syllables. I think if I liked super short names I'd go for something with a consonent start. Like Maeve and Niamh maybe. If you're particularly liking older gen names like Effie (Euphemia) there are things like Mabel and Clara and Nora and Dora, Rosa, Lucy, Polly, Daisy, Iris etc. Or if it's the general sound and format you like perhaps a strong consonant at the start would differentiate them more. Mia (I know it's super popular) Maya or Fia or Freya are similar format but seem more differentiated. There's non-granny names that are shorter with two syllables and a on the end like Tara and Cara or Dinah and Gina etc. Not saying any of these are better, just that I feel I'd like a bit more of an individual name for myself if I was the child in question and not be too similar to my sibling's name.

Effie is not great ("iffy", "effing") and Ada and Edie are both too similar to Etta. I think you need to look for some more options.
