Lydia or Jemima?

Which do you prefer?

Our surname begins with L. Do you think it's ok to pair Lydia with that?

I like both. I think Lydia would work with L depending on what the surname is. I think it entirely depends on how it sounds and what the flow is.

You hear jemima, you think puddle duck.

Lydia L would be cute, unless the drip feed is that your surname is also Lydia 😊

Mol1628 · 08/05/2022 06:58

Lydia. Unless the surname is a similar sound/rhyme.

KangarooKenny · 08/05/2022 06:59

Lydia. It’s lovely.
I instantly say puddle duck in my head when I hear Jemima.

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/05/2022 07:11

I prefer Jemima. I like alliteration but depends on surname eg Lydia Lewis ok Lydia Liddell no

elfran · 08/05/2022 07:27

I much prefer Jemima - Lydia will never shake the "worst sister in Pride & Prejudice" association for me. Plus the nn Lids is pretty unappealing.

Metabigot · 08/05/2022 07:33

I hear Lydia Dustbin
Much prefer Jemima

PukkaP · 08/05/2022 07:36

Jemima

pilates · 08/05/2022 07:41

Both lovely names but I think Jemima has the slight edge because I like the nn Jem.

Definitely Lydia depending on your surname. Jemima is very cutesie nursery rhyme, in my opinion.

Love classic Lydia and really like alliterative names too - it makes commonplace/popular names more memorable imo (probably hence the reason quite a few celebs as well as book/film characters have alliterative names).

Jemima is nice enough, although personally less keen on nn Jem for girls (for me it's solidly boys thanks to TKAM)

spaceman1 · 08/05/2022 08:31

I prefer Jemima

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 08/05/2022 08:33

I love Lydia and alliterative names-think would be lovely-

I also think Puddleduck with jemima.

AnuSTart · 08/05/2022 08:36

We had a Lydia in our class (fantastic girl and name) yet when we did sex Ed she got called Lydia Chlamydia for quite a long time!

Jemima is also lovely.
I like them both but Jemima wins for me.
In fact I want to have another daughter so I can call her Jemima!

TitoMojito · 08/05/2022 08:37

I really like Lydia. She’s a badass follower in Skyrim if that helps with connotations Grin

I also think Puddleduck for Jemima

ButterRose · 08/05/2022 08:43

I think Lydia L works nicely depends what the last name is really

ABrightSilverLining · 08/05/2022 08:45

Lydia

RuthW · 08/05/2022 09:18

Jemima is lovely.

AdaColeman · 08/05/2022 09:30

Lydia

GreatCuppa · 08/05/2022 10:17

Lydia.

BungleandGeorge · 08/05/2022 10:22

Lydia

MargaritasOnMe · 08/05/2022 10:32

I like both! I'm going to vote for Jemima as I can see Lydia already has a lot of love.

tulipsunday · 08/05/2022 10:35

Lydia

Robinni · 08/05/2022 11:06

Don’t like either. But I’d go for Jemima over Lydia L. L. Wouldn’t sound great… and Lydia overly formal.

I’d say she’ll get Jem or Jemma before too long.

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 08/05/2022 11:56

Lydia - Sounds like Chlamydia
Jemima - Puddleduck

So neither for me
Plus I went to school with a horrible Lydia and I know a Lydia and she's a devil child so definately not
