Lydia or Jemima?

Which do you prefer?

Our surname begins with L. Do you think it's ok to pair Lydia with that?

I love Lydia! Fab Name.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 08/05/2022 12:06

Both lovely names, Lydia just edges for me.

whatausername · 08/05/2022 12:06

Lydia 100 times over. Jemima is twee and cutesy.

Beetlewings · 08/05/2022 12:14

Lydia Lunch

JustMaggie · 08/05/2022 12:18

Both very nice, but Lydia is a classic

Pieceofpurplesky · 08/05/2022 12:44

For me Jemima as I teach and there are loads of Lydias.
I also love Jem or Mima as a nn

toastofthetown · 08/05/2022 12:55

I prefer Lydia. I went to school with a Lydia L- so I don't see that as a dealbreaker. Jemima isn't appealing to me sonically, and in America there are racist connotations which puts me off further.

GiltEdges · 08/05/2022 12:58

Love Lydia. Hate Jemima (and also makes me think Puddleduck)

PuppyPowerTool · 08/05/2022 13:06

Not Lydia, not only because chlamydia, but Aunt Lydia too (Handmaid's Tale) she's proper evil. I like Jemima.

tuliplover · 08/05/2022 13:06

I just think of Mrs Bennet saying an exasperated 'oh Lydia'! I think it's a hard sounding name.
Not that keen on Jemima - I think of Aunt Jemima - a US food brand. I guess it would be shortened to 'Jem' which is ok.

Yika · 08/05/2022 13:08

Both lovely names, can’t go wrong! I think Lydia is classier/ more elegant whereas Jemima has a cute feel. I love alliterative names so would choose Lydia.

Ringo11 · 08/05/2022 13:11

I'm very biased on this because my baby daughter is called Jemima. I'd always loved the name and you don't hear it too often which is nice.

Having said that, Lydia is also lovely.

Ringo11 · 08/05/2022 13:12

We call her Mima sometimes. Not intentionally but my toddler son called her Mima when she was born and it kind of stuck. It sounds cute atm but she probably won't like Mima when she's older lol

WhoppingBigBackside · 08/05/2022 14:01

Jemima.
Lydia's nice but will be Lyd or Lyds.
Another who thinks of P&P

VintageGibbon · 08/05/2022 14:04

Both good names but I prefer the sound of Jemima. And Jem is a nicer nn than Lyddie.

Theoldwoman · 08/05/2022 14:30

Definitely Lydia however I’m not a fan of alliteration.

RoostasTowel · 08/05/2022 14:42

Is your surname Lunch?

teezletangler · 09/05/2022 06:21

I have a Jemima, and Lydia was also on our list. I actually think Lydia is the more classic and beautiful name, and will sound great with an L last name. Jemima has wonderful nicknames though, and I love its biblical roots. Go with the one you love or that feels more right. If they are neck and neck, I'd go with Lydia.

beetree1 · 09/05/2022 09:41

I vote Jemima but I also have a little Jemima and just love it so much. No one has tried to shorten her name yet but we sometimes call her mima

Lemonlemon88 · 09/05/2022 09:44

I love jemima!

fireandlight · 09/05/2022 09:47

Both gorgeous but slightly prefer Lydia, it was on our shortlist as well as Tabitha and Matilda. I also love alliterative names so would go with that.

HollowMollows · 09/05/2022 11:56

Lydia for me.

I'm another one who'd instantly think of Jemima puddle duck 🦆

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/05/2022 23:18

Lydia. Jemima is sweet but twee.

Drew31 · 10/05/2022 08:50

Jemima!
