I love Lilith.

Manon? Etta? Ingrid? Astrid?

Don't like Raven, or Ebony.
Victoria risks the Vicky nn, which I'm not keen on.

steppemum · 03/05/2022 12:49

There is definitely a witchy theme here!

I think names like Raven and Ebony go best on kids with dark hair. Little blonde blue eyed Ebony looks a bit odd to me. But they are both lovely names.
Ursula reminds me of the witch in the Little Mermaid
Morganna is of course the evil one in King Arthur and Gretel has the fairy tale connection. For those reasons I personally wouldn't use them.

Love Lilith.
Victoria is very classic, seems out of sync with the rest of your list. Seems a bit bland compared to the others. I quite like Tori as a shortening of it.

Ursula - I feel it's a name I should like and I love the meaning but the Ur- sound is just unappealing to me
Raven - I don't love it, but it's not objectively terrible
Ebony - not sure if you are white, but I would find Ebony on a which child a little jarring
Lilith - a demon in Jewish folklore. Obvious nickname is Lily which is tired and overdone to me
Victoria - I quite like Victoria, though Vicky doesn't appeal. I like Vita as a nickname
Morganna - Ursula's sister in The Little Mermaid 2! I prefer the Morgana spelling and I put this name with Raven, not bad, but not one I'd choose. I don't think the Arthurian connection is too much, though definitely there.
Gretel - quite sweet though I prefer Greta to avoid any Hansel associations

As a whole list, a lot of these feel like you a trying to be a bit "dark and edgy" with your names in a slightly cringy way to me. Feels like a list I could have come up with in my emo phase.

What about Seraphina? Or Margarita?

These are both literary witches.

Glitterspy · 03/05/2022 13:04

They do sound like baddie names! Do you have other DCs, what are their names?

TrillianMurphy · 03/05/2022 13:05

*Serafina

Glitterbiscuits · 03/05/2022 13:06

I know an older Ursula and she is one of the nicest, kindest people I have ever met so for that reason I think it's a lovely name.

MsTSwift · 03/05/2022 13:08

I really like Ursula. Watching life after life on iPlayer and the girl in that has this name

QualityGuarantee · 03/05/2022 13:23

I didn't think about Ebony on a blondie with blue eyes which is what she will most likely be however I should have said I am considering these for middle name, not first, not brave enough. DD1 has a vanilla first name and more out there middle name.

Think Louise Clementine (that's not it)

I love Ursula and it's a contender for (as yet imaginary) DD2. Goes well with my first DD's name. The others aren't really to my taste but I do have a soft spot for Lilith!

VeryQuaintIrene · 03/05/2022 13:36

Ursula is a brilliant name.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 03/05/2022 13:37

I like Ursula

Loginmystery · 03/05/2022 13:38

I adore gretel and always wanted a baby girl named this.

Chaoslatte · 03/05/2022 13:39

The only ones I like are Victoria and Morgana (with a single n and long a sound).
I find Ursula so ugly - the first syllable is literally eurgh!

Marvellousmadness · 03/05/2022 13:42

Ursula......
Uh
Ever seen the little mermaid??

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/05/2022 13:43

My first thought about the name Ursula is that it's a saint's name. (There was a convent school near where I grew up in Bristol called St Ursula's). Then I thought of Phoebe's twin in Friends.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 03/05/2022 13:44

One of my oldest friends is called Ursula, so it has a warm place in my heart. Plus it means little bear, which would be a sweet thing to whisper to a baby.

KirstenBlest · 03/05/2022 14:04

Ursula - ok but some say Urshula instead of Urs-ula
Raven - raving
Ebony - no
Lilith - no
Victoria - yes
Morganna - Morgana is more usual. No to both
Gretel - ok if a nn for Margaret

What do you think of Mary Raven Surname

OP posts:
ABrightSilverLining · 03/05/2022 14:09

I love Gretel! Mary is a nice name.

steppemum · 03/05/2022 14:18

I love Mary Raven.
As Mary it is nice straightforward firstname, but with raven as second name, gives it an edge.

saggyjanet · 03/05/2022 14:22

@steppemum thanks :)!

Mumofgirls2017 · 03/05/2022 15:07

None sorry! Victoria if had to pick. Ursula reminds me of little mermaid witch!

MsTSwift · 03/05/2022 18:37

Love Mary. Very refreshing and underused in a world of Eve/Amelia/Olivia
