Parisa or Pari?

Hi, we are thinking of what to register as the official name and love the name Pari, we want to go with that as the “known as” name, but should we put choose the longer version, Parisa, as the legal name? Or should we just register it as Pari since that’s what she will be called? DH thinks it’s too much confusion having a longer name and likes the simplicity of Pari being registered as the legal name. Please help! :)

I think Parisa is lovely and Pari is a sweet nickname.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 28/04/2022 14:18

Parisa is lovely though so I'd be inclined to put that as the official name. It's very soft and elegant.

KirstenBlest · 28/04/2022 14:46

Is it Paris-a or Pareesa? If it is the persian name, it's Pareesa
Pari sounds like the surname Parry (son of Harry)

helpmedecide22 · 28/04/2022 14:49

@KirstenBlest Yep it’s the Persian Parisa & Pari

I would pronounce Pari more with an “ae” sound than the “a” sound in Harry.

Pari means Angel in my language. I love it!

helpmedecide22 · 28/04/2022 15:03

@Mano2020 Which language do you speak? Oh interesting to hear different meanings! It means fairy in mine, so quite similar.

Mano2020 · 28/04/2022 15:04

Punjabi and Hindi it is the same meaning Smile

Ducksurprise · 28/04/2022 15:14

I like the full name and Pari as a nn (do you pronounce it like fairy, as you said ae?)

Electrox · 28/04/2022 15:17

I misread one of the names as Pearl. Perhaps Pari could be short for Pearl? Paris's reminds me of Paris Hilton.

helpmedecide22 · 28/04/2022 15:23

@Ducksurprise yep, i pronounce it a bit like the “ai” in fairy.

@Mano2020 how interesting! :)

Thanks, that is how I would naturally pronounce the name and I think it sounds lovely, and especially with the meaning.

dottypencilcase · 28/04/2022 15:49

Urdu speaker here. Parisa as the official name and Pari as the nn. Gorgeous name. Means fairy in my language.

I think i meant Fairy too haha Smile

its seems like the majority like the idea of Parisa as registered name. Not sure why I’m leaning more towards having Pari as the “known as” name, and the legal name. I don’t know if I like the sound of Parisa as much as Pari… so confused!

It actually doesnt really come up much though DD has a 4 letter nn that for pretty much everything (including school) and certificates is her name. Her longer name only comes up for official stuff but I do think it is better that way. Gives her more options

I flit between my short form and longer form depending on how I feel.

Gowithme · 28/04/2022 17:24

I'd go Parisa nn Pari. Parisa is beautiful and so sophisticated IMO.

YellowHighHeels · 28/04/2022 17:34

I rather like Pari- I know a family of Farsi (Persian) speakers and many of them seem to have these beautiful short, elegant names with delightful meanings which I have always liked.

Parisa is pretty but I think there is something confident and stylish about a shorter name like Pari.

honeybushbunch · 28/04/2022 17:43

Beautiful name - I LOVE Parisa nn Pari. I think the longer name gives her more options for when she’s older, and is elegant and gorgeous. Pari is a lovely nickname and so cute for a young child or teenager!

helpmedecide22 · 28/04/2022 21:36

Thanks for all the lovely comments!

Would it be awful if we just went for Pari? For some reason Parisa just doesn’t feel right, even though the name is lovely.

Iceddecaflatte · 30/04/2022 20:00

I prefer Paris

jackstini · 30/04/2022 20:06

It wouldn't be awful necessarily, but I think it's much better to give her the option of the longer version if she wants it and it's a really pretty name

Why would you not?

MartinMartinMarti · 30/04/2022 20:15

I prefer Parisa, but it's not my daughter - go with what you like!

Pari is lovely too. Agree with PPs that a lot of Farsi names are great

user1492757084 · 01/05/2022 02:07

Is Pari a full name in it's own right in your culture? If so, go with that. It sounds lovely.
If not, go with Parisa. It won't be confusing at all for her to use Pari due to the first four letters being the same. Her mail will be addressed - Miss P ... Her spelling will be Pari or Pari and isa added.
