Parisa or Pari?

Hi, we are thinking of what to register as the official name and love the name Pari, we want to go with that as the “known as” name, but should we put choose the longer version, Parisa, as the legal name? Or should we just register it as Pari since that’s what she will be called? DH thinks it’s too much confusion having a longer name and likes the simplicity of Pari being registered as the legal name. Please help! :)

Parisa nn Pari

Parisa is beautiful and it gives her options, it also feels more international, classic and grown up than Pari. It’s not confusing at all to have a short form. Remind your husband it isn’t him who has to live with the name and you want her to have choices.

I don’t think there would any confusion whatsoever with Parisa with nn Pari. So many names are shortened in every culture - Christopher - Chris ; Mohammed - Mo; Jessica - Jessie; Parisa - Pari. I don’t see your DHs problem here. Parisa nn Pari, is lovely. It not like you want to call her Parisa nn Agatha, or something, which could be confusing.

I would go with Parisa NN Pari because it does give her options as she grows up should she not like Pari, which can't really be shortened (although we do refer to a friend of mine just as 'P' sometimes).

I think Parisa is a name to grow into, just like the adult woman she will grow up to be.

If you don't love Parisa and don't intend on calling her that, then don't put it on the BC.

One of my DC has the long version of his name on his BC 'in case he wants to use it later in life' but he doesn't recognise it as his name, hates it, can't spell it right cos he never uses it and it does get used like at the Drs, by some family members (despite my son asking them not to) and on official forms. He's 10 and has asked me to change it officially to the short version of his name which is what he's always been known as.

It’s a lovely name and she can choose to use the short or long version when she gets older (I’ve moved towards my ‘Sunday name’ as I’ve got older - which I loathed as a child).

Any middle names?

Nilufar is possibly the most beautiful name I know for a middle name! Or Saleha (sp)

Love Parisa nn Pari. Don't like Pari on its own as it was my aunt's name and I don't think hers was short for Parisa. There are other less nice Persian names that abbreviate to Pari eg. Paricheh and Paridokh.
