Expecting baby girl in next week or so (3 older brothers Jack,Henry and Louis)

Thought we had decided on Martha Rose but hubby now not sure and making me doubt the name!? He says he thinks it’s too ‘old lady’

Other Names that were discussed previously

Amelia Grace
Sophia Emily
Maya Rose

Can I ask for help what do people think would a girl called Martha be picked on for being ‘old lady’ are we better going for something top 50 like our boys?!?

I'm sure she won't be picked on for her name if you choose Martha.

It's not my style at all, but there's nothing wrong with it. I suppose though, that if your DH doesn't like it you might have to think of another name. You both have to like it.

You'll know which name is right when you meet her.

TabithaHazel · 26/04/2022 14:13

I like Martha, but prefer Maya. I honestly don't think kids have the concept of an old lady name so wouldn't be a source for bullying anyway. But if your husband no longer likes the name then I guess it's off the table!

FelicityPike · 26/04/2022 14:14

Martha 100% your other 3 first names are incredibly popular common.

MargaritasOnMe · 26/04/2022 14:17

Martha is definitely the best. I'm early 30s, went to school with a Martha and have taught a few over the last 10 years. Also lots of "old" names are back in fashion eg Stanley and Elsie, so I highly doubt there'd be any comments from other kids.

Madeintheseventies · 26/04/2022 14:19

I’m not overly keen on Martha, and it’d be difficult for your daughter to shorten it if she wanted to.
I much prefer Amelia, because it’s a lovely name in itself, and it’s also a name you can shorten in a few different ways, such as Millie, Lia, Mia etc

allthenamechanging · 26/04/2022 14:19

I think all of your name options are top 50? Fwiw I like Sophia Emily best- still very classic beautiful names, but not old lady like Martha and rose Smile

viques · 26/04/2022 14:23

Martha is a lovely name, classy, classic and not too overused. Martha Grace goes well, and has the bonus that some rich relative would know exactly what classic car to buy her for her 18th!

SunshiningBoo · 26/04/2022 14:25

Martha Rose is lovely and I don't think it's too old lady. I love Amelia Grace as well.

thisplaceisweird · 26/04/2022 14:26

Martha is lovely. Kids don't know what a 'grandma' name is anyway.

MysticCT · 26/04/2022 14:28

I'm not keen on Martha as I think it's quite harsh. I've got an old lady name but one that has never really been popular and it has always seemed harsh to me.
Your other names are all lovely and have softer endings.
I would want and see if one in particular suits her better.

LeftieLucy · 26/04/2022 14:40

Martha, Rose and Amelia are all Doctor Who companions, is that a coincidence or are you a fan?

I like Sophie best from your choices.

Bee356 · 26/04/2022 15:43

Never watched an episode in my life lol just coincidence!!

Martha isn't old lady, it's been in the top 100 girl's names for most of the past 20 years.

Amelia and Sophia have been extremely popular for the past 20 years and are now quite overused.

Maya isn't to my taste at all, it blends in with all the Mias, Milas, Maias, May/Maes, Maeves and Mabels

Rose is nice but is every other little girl's middle name. It's just a filler middle name

Of your first names Martha is by far the best but I'd go for a different middle name and not Grace or May

LividLaVidaLoca · 26/04/2022 15:57

Martha UNLESS you’re in a place where it’d be pronounced Marfa.

KirstenBlest · 26/04/2022 16:13

If you look up Sophia and Sofia, there are an awful lot of them
Amelia has been in the top 5 names for about 10 years, and Emilia has also been popular for quite some time, and there are lots of Amelies
Rose is probably the most popular middle name for all these

urbanbuddha · 26/04/2022 16:22

Not Martha - it sounds harsh and I've always disliked the servant connotation.
Rose or Rosa as a first name is lovely and goes well with your boys' names.

RandomQuest · 26/04/2022 16:27

I don’t think Martha is an old lady name is it?? Just based on personal experience I’ve never met an older one but know 5 Martha’s ranging from early 20s to 30s. I much prefer it to your other names too. There are a lot of Amelia’s and Sophia’s around too, especially when take into account alternative spellings and/or very similar sounding names e.g. Sofia and Emilia.

MajorCarolDanvers · 26/04/2022 16:29

I like all your names except Maya.

I think Martha Rose is excellent

Bee356 · 26/04/2022 17:24

Martha, definitely.

Fivebeanchilli · 26/04/2022 17:42

Martha by far.

Mumofgirls2017 · 26/04/2022 20:09

Martha is my favourite of your list but if OH doesn’t agree, the rest are perfectly nice too. Probably would go for Sophia esp with your other kids

HighInPolyunsaturates · 26/04/2022 20:20

All very pretty. I'd go with Amelie (not Amelia) as it's more interesting I think. Or Rose as a first name?

Sophia Emily is my least favourite, just because they are both so popular.

You don't need to decide yet - have a look at her and see what you think.

Congratulations😊

user3199 · 26/04/2022 20:25

I love Rose as a first name, and it's my favourite of all the names you list. Emilia is a nice alternative to Amelia. Not keen on Grace and Rose as middle names as they are so ubiquitous (along with May).

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 26/04/2022 20:30

Martha is very nice. Rose and Grace are absolutely done to death and Amelia sounds like a MEALY uh. Very ugly name which also is the medical term for 'absence of limbs.' So please don't choose that!
