Hi all
so I’m currently expecting my first baby and having a mare trying to come up with a name that we can both agree on.

OH loves Lily which i think lovely but common.
I love Lola but he isn’t keen so I suggested Ava which again is lovely but is this common Also?

Middle name would be Rae after my sister Rachel or May which is my middle name.

I’m really after a pretty name but not where she would go to school and there be numerous other kids with the same name.

Help please 😁x

I like both. And they are both def pretty names.

I am not fan of Lola, I always think of 'her name was Lola, she was a showgirl' and that song was out long before I was born.

KirstenBlest · 25/04/2022 11:10

I really don't like Ava.
May is a filler middle name, and every other Ava or Lily will be Ava/Lily May,/Rose/Grace. Rae is awful unless it is a surname

Rosemary2022 · 25/04/2022 12:49

Lily

Firebird83 · 25/04/2022 13:15

Ava Rae and Lily May type names are very popular and overused.

VeneziaGiulia45 · 25/04/2022 13:19

I don't think there's anything wrong with a name being common. If anything I'd say it's an advantage. Everyone recognises it, will know how to spell and pronounce it, and won't have to get her to repeat it 3x. Also, Lily is common for a reason - because it's lovely!

Chaoslatte · 25/04/2022 13:28

Lily! It’s lovely and no more common than Ava. In fact I know a baby Ava but all the Lilys I know are older.
I really hate Rae though, I think it looks so ugly. I’d go with Lily Rachel.

Kanaloa · 25/04/2022 13:28

Lily May or Ava May are popular names - no getting round that. But they’re popular because they’re really nice names. Maybe you could add a more uncommon middle name to make it a bit more unusual? Or go for something like Lilliana.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 25/04/2022 13:28

Ava is this decade's Sandra. Nothing wrong with that as such. I prefer Lily though.

Newmum1996 · 25/04/2022 13:45

Thanks so much for your help! Think it’s been narrowed down to Lily by all your opinions!

with regards to a more unusual middle name, would anybody have any ideas for a November baby?
I thought Poppy due to it being remembrance month (11/11) but then it would be 2 flower names which i think might be a bit tacky?

I can’t have Poppy as a first name as I have a cousin called Poppy 🙄

thank you again! X

November is the month of Bonfire night - names that mean/have connotations of fire include Ember, Bridget, Seraphina and Soleil.

Or you could go with Autumn themed names: Autumn, Amber, Hazel, Aurelia,

SummaLuvin · 25/04/2022 14:09

These were my absolute favourite girls names circa 2007, the amount of Sims I had called Lily and Ava is astonishing.

HairyToity · 25/04/2022 14:09

I just wanted to say that Ava and Lily are two of my favourite girls names. They are gorgeous names, and popular for a reason.

In my mind middle names are rarely used, so just go with what you fancy. We went for family names.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 25/04/2022 14:14

Ava and Lily are both lovely and I totally disagree about “this decade’s Sandra”! Confused
Please think of more original middle names though. May and Rae are really boring filler ones.

If you want to honour your sister call her Ava Rachel, that’s really lovely.

pitterypattery00 · 25/04/2022 14:28

Personally prefer Ava to Lily, but both are nice names. I wouldn't be put off by their popularity - there was an Ava in my antenatal group who is now 2 but I haven't come across any others at nursery, baby classes etc. Haven't met any baby/toddler Lilys. Some others in my antenatal group chose unusual names, well outside of top 100, and I have met other babies with the same names.

Definitely agree with PPs to avoid Rae and May as middle names. Rachel is lovely.

Kitten2 · 25/04/2022 14:53

Ava is gorgeous

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/04/2022 15:05

They are all very very popular

I would personally go for Ava over Lily as Lily is a bit wet. I’d also avoid May as so overused, and Rae is tacky.

How about Ava Rachel, or Lily Rachel

Lily Poppy is more daft than tacky

YayitisfinallySpring · 25/04/2022 15:27

Every other little girl in my road is Ava, Eva or Evie. They will be names that date like Sharon and Tracy, Brenda and Barbara. I don't think Lily will date so badly. Avoid the second names like May, which is so overused. Perhaps use a more classic name for the second name like Elizabeth, Catherine, Margaret or Mary.

greentriangle99 · 25/04/2022 18:15

I like Lily

IglesiasPiggl · 25/04/2022 18:20

What about Lila or Lyra if you want something a bit less popular? Agree with PP that as a middle name the full Rachel is better. It's not a much used name for this generation, unlike Rae. Rachel is much classier!

Newmum1996 · 26/04/2022 16:50

Thanks for your opinions all. I’ll be sure to update you all on what we decide in the end. X 👶🏼

Both are immensely popular. Every other Ava is Ava May (along with Grace and Rose). Rae is also hugely overused and often hyphenated.

Lily Rachel is lovely, why not just use that?
