Sibling for Arthur - help with boys names

Brearm · 13/04/2022 10:17

We are due another baby and don’t know the gender, my son is Arthur Edward and we love his name. My husband loves all the old fashioned names and royal names. If we have a girl we have loads of options Eliza, Evelyn, Alice, Clara. But we are struggling with boys names.

Our surname is long and ends in ey so names ending in a ey sound terrible in my opinion otherwise husband would want Henry or Charles nn Charlie. Middle name will be William after a family member.

Names we like but aren’t quite right…
Albert (I don’t like the nicknames)
Alfred (husband doesn’t like Alfie)
Frederick (husband doesn’t like Freddie)
Hugo (I worry about the posh stereotype)
Ellis (husband feels it’s too feminine)
Oliver (both don’t like Ollie)

Please help! Thankyou in advance!

Arthur & Felix
Arthur & Joseph
Arthur & Thomas
Arthur & Benjamin
Arthur & Patrick
Arthur & Lawrence
Arthur & Leo
Arthur & James
Arthur & Jack
Arthur & Tristan
Arthur & George
Arthur & Theo

I eliminated Wilfred (due to not really going with William), and Stanley, Finlay and Rory due to them ending in "y"!

Hugo (I worry about the posh stereotype) - it's #51 in England & Wales, they can't all be posh

Go for Hugo, it's a top 50 name now.

Otherwise, Theo and George go well with Arthur.

Hugo is not posh anymore- use it - great name

Ellis is my favourite though, I don't see it as feminine - look at the statistics 642 baby boys were named Ellis in 2020 compared to 29 girls. It's clearly seen as a boys name and is ranked number 89 for boys but outside the top 1000 for girls. If not how about Eli?

yikesanotherbooboo · 13/04/2022 14:18

I know several Hugos, not particularly posh if under 35.

Thankyou all for suggestions and reassurances. Thoughts on Wilson? It has been suggested to be and I’m on the fence. It goes well with our surname and I like Will as a nn. Is it too different in style to Arthur?

christmasthoughts · 13/04/2022 20:52

So he'd be Wilson William Surname?
I don't dislike it actually! I would see Wilson as a different type of name to Arthur but not sure if that's a problem..?

jlieonapl8 · 13/04/2022 21:22

I disagree, I think Wilson William is too much as they both shorten to "Will"... obviously middle names don't really get shortened, but if he ended up solely going by Will, he'd be "Will William Surname" and that's just a bit silly.
