Jago or Raphael?

I know they're v different.... but which would you go for?

We have Cornish reasons to choose Jago, but I have a real soft spot for Raphael (which I would shorten to Rafe).

Short, v British, boring surname - in case that's relevant.

If you hate them both then no need to comment (wishful thinking maybe!).

I really like both of these boys names, they are quite different in style though aren’t they.
If I had to choose though I’d go for Raphael (I also like the Rafael spelling) as it has a lovely meaning and I think the pronunciation is easier/more straight forward. Good luck.

Love Jago

I have a Raphael and a short, boring surname. They seem to balance each other! It's a fab name imho and has good nickname potential. Organically, he's evolved to be different names to different people.

I love Jago too though so you can't really go wrong.

I really like Raphael for my own son. I love the imagery (archangel, painter), the meaning in Hebrew and the multicultural quality... though the different pronunciations make me a bit hesitant. Jago isn't really my personal style but it's a nice name. It reminds me of Dr Jago Cooper who does historical documentaries.

I prefer Raphael. Two syllable names ending in O are such a huge trend at the moment, I think they’ll date as a genre (similar to the -ette names feeling very 1960s). Jago blends in with Theo, Milo, Arlo, Leo, Hugo et al.

Jago is a nice enough name, but Raphael rolls off the tongue better, in my opinion.

Raphael for ease, I think - it's better known, I've never encountered Jago and wouldn't know how to pronounce it (yago, or as it looks?).

BUT that isn't necessarily an issue - plenty of people have to tell someone how to pronounced their name! - and they're both lovely!

Raphael - I do love Rafe as a nm. And it has that certain European exoticness about it

What are the different pronunciations you've heard? My Raphael is 11 and I've only ever heard people say it one way ie the way we say it.

Ok with this in mind I'd go Jago! In my mind Jago seems a bit different to Hugo. And at the school I work at and friends I know Jagos aged 19-6. So it's 20 years which is a long time for a trend.
