Olive as a boys name?

I really love Olive as a boys name as a twist on Oliver thta I also like but is far too popular for me to ever use. However, I am aware its wayyyy more common as a girls name. Even though I have only ever heard of girls with this name, it sounds far more unisex to me and I would love to use it but wouldn't want negative reactions to it. Its so annoying that boys names can be used for girls but not the other way round!

I'm not sure why I like it so much (and I prefer it as a boys name than a girls name), but here are other names I like in case anyone has alternatives of suggestions for both boys and girls that would suit my style!

Eliza, Florence, Lottie, Tilliah, Grace (love the nickname grey for b+gs)
Greyson, Olive, Ezra

Thank you!!!

@FelicityPike

Oh for goodness sake no. That’s like that poor wee girl called Richard I once saw on TikTok!!

That's a joke! She's not really called Richard.

@Purpleroseas it’s still pronounced differently though - I was trying to get at an Italian pronunciation of the third syllable which is different to the German pronunciation. The S in German is also different to in English and Italian. I don’t think there are pronunciations of Simone that are the same for both genders. You do get that for Andrea and Nicola of course though.

Olaf - also the name of a very popular animated snowman, which may not go down well either!

My great uncle was Olaf, it's a long established human name. Should we avoid Sebastian because it's a talking crab in a popular Disney film?

If you like the sound of Olive for a boy, why not Olav or Olaf, which actually is a boy's name?

ExMachinaDeus · 13/04/2022 14:09

Whyyyyyyy?

Just call him Oliver. That's a lovely name.

DorritLittle · 13/04/2022 14:10

Your thread title is 'Olive as a boy's name'. Not 'Alternatives to Olive as a boy's name'.

In defence of those 'spreading negativity'!

watcherintherye · 13/04/2022 14:39

I’m assuming this thread is tongue in cheek! You could have Olivio. It’s a boys name as well as brand of olive oil!

Phewthemutinyworked · 13/04/2022 15:45

Olive is my favourite name for a girl…but only a girl! Don’t do it !

DaisyWaldron · 13/04/2022 15:49

I'm also here to suggest Olav/Olaf.

caringcarer · 13/04/2022 15:54

I've never heard of a boy called Olive because everyone knows it's a girl's name. A boy would be bullied and laughed at if called Olive. Or more than likely when older he would add an r to the end for Oliver.

LondonQueen · 13/04/2022 16:09

Grayson or Ezra are the only suitable names for boys on your list. The others are 100% girls names.

decentchap · 13/04/2022 16:15

Don't be daft. Call him Olly if you want but never, ever, Olive.
I tried to think of a female comparison but you might conceivably have liked being called David or Sylvester?

LondonQueen · 13/04/2022 16:16

@Purpleroseas

Isn't there a famous woman cook called Jack?!
Changed her name from Mellisa.
magicstars · 13/04/2022 16:20

Ezra Is a great name.

How about milo, or Arlo?

The Americans and British with your ridiculous baby names! You’re hilarious.

ramidad123 · 13/04/2022 18:08

i actually really like olive for a boy, but there is the potential of confusion with oliver and teasing as the name is often used for a girl. it does have a unisex feel to it i agree. i think Arlo could be a good fit for you instead maybe?
