Thoughts on Cassandra?

I had a thread on Cassia, but I'm not sure about it now. I thought Cassandra felt a bit dated, probably because it reminds me of Only Fools and Horses, but it's growing on me now. What do you think?

Only fools and horses springs to mind. Love Cassie though. Cassia is lovely too.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 21/03/2022 13:55

Lovely.

AHungryCaterpillar · 21/03/2022 13:57

It has a nice sound but does seem dated but I think it’s a pretty name, love Cassie

toastofthetown · 21/03/2022 13:59

I also find Cassandra quite dated. It's not a horrible name, but I can't say that I like it.

Rosser · 21/03/2022 14:03

I love Cass and Cassie as nn but I can’t get past the Sandra part. Or only fools and horses.

Cassia is better.

Only fools and horses springs to mind

I started humming the tune when I heard the name.

Unfortunately it is a name that needs another 20-30 years before it can safely be used again.

KylieCharlene · 21/03/2022 15:33

Dated and a little 'cheap'. Sorry.
I love the similar(ish) Carrie.

AuntDympna · 21/03/2022 16:32

I knew a lovely girl called Cassandra and that's who I think of when I hear the name.

WeAreTheHeroes · 21/03/2022 16:34

Cassandra in Greek mythology was cursed to utter true prophecies, but never to be believed.

Kanaloa · 21/03/2022 16:34

It’s a nice name. I like Cass/Cassie too. It’s unusual now too.

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/03/2022 16:40

First thing I thought of was only fools and horses too so yes a bit dated, but I always think once you know a child with a name it doesn't seem dated anymore so whilst when you announce little Cassandra's birth people might think 'oh that's a bit dated' once they know her it will just be her name and they will think of Little baby Cassandra

It's not a bad name at all and Cassie is cute and it's with names like Poppy, Elsie, Marnie etc

Meandthesky · 21/03/2022 17:06

I really like it. Never watched Only Fools and Horses though. I only associate it with Greek mythology and possibly an episode of Red Dwarf (Cassandra was a computer who predicted the future)

liquidrevolution · 21/03/2022 17:08

I desperately wanted any future DD to be a cassandra due to I Capture the Castle but married a man with a long 5 syllable surname Sad

Turningpurple · 21/03/2022 17:09

Tbf I went straight for the Greek myth. And it's not a happy story, so I wouldn't name my child Cassandra.

However now Only fools and horses has been mentioned, everytime I read it I can hear Rodney's voice in my head Grin

My first thought too
LandGirlJudy · 21/03/2022 17:12

I only know one Kassandra (adult, early 30s) and she's absolutely awful so she's spoilt the name for me

alexdgr8 · 21/03/2022 17:13

NO.
didn't she predict doom, correctly, but was never believed.
not a good association of ideas.
pick a sunnier name.

DoodleBelle · 21/03/2022 17:13

Prefer Cassia but it should be nice name. I didn’t think of Only Fools and Horses - my first association is the YA author Cassandra Clare but I’m 30 and work with books so that might be different for me.

OldWivesTale · 21/03/2022 17:13

First thought: Only Fools and Horses

Bouledeneige · 21/03/2022 17:59

In the Greek fable she foresaw her own murder.

Otherwise I think it's a bit of a mouthful. But I like Cassia.

Luluuuuuuuuuu85 · 21/03/2022 19:12

Cassandra is my dh's number one name, I like Cassie but not so keen on Cassandra! I'm trying to find something where I like the full name enough to call them that too 😂

canyoubelievethat · 21/03/2022 19:20

I'm not so keen on Cassandra. I prefer Cassie. I know a girl called Cassidy who goes by Cassie.

Hummingbirdcake · 21/03/2022 19:22

Prefer Cassia.

Hadtocomment · 21/03/2022 19:25

I love it. I think it's a beautiful and flowy name and with lots of history attached. I don't think only fools and horses will even be known beyond a certain generation.

nocoolnamesleft · 21/03/2022 19:26

Doomed to always tell the truth and never be believed. Abducted from sanctuary, and raped. Taken as a concubine by the leader of the invading army. Murdered by her captor's jealous wife.

That would be a no from me.
