Honest opinions needed as I’m full of the preggo hormones and don’t know if it’s lovely and unusual or verging on the ridiculous!

OH says he will consider it— our surname is two syllables and quite common— We loved Aurelia previously but because of a certain partying politician it’s off the table.

Is it a step too far?

Niche, but Arcady is a piece of software for modelling traffic flows....

How are you saying Aurelia, it does make me think "Oh really?"

Weefreetiffany · 21/02/2022 19:57

@HelloCrocus yes that was my train of thought too! My maternal grandparents were from a country where Arkadiusz for a boy is quite common, perhaps Arkadia or Arkadiya might be a less Philip green orientated spelling, but I don’t want her to feel like too much of an outsider… while I love my Eastern European name now, it is still frustrating when people ask me how long I’ve been in the country and they never like the “I was born here, as were my parents” reply. That’s why I was looking for a classics/Greek/Roman/European name that’s easy to pronounce. I think I’ve been thoroughly put off Arcadia though, absolutely no nice associations it seems. Thanks for making me feel less mad though!

@ZoyaTheDestroyer

Too much scope for niche but persistent dirty ‘et in Arcadia ego’ jokes from the classicists once she is at university.
This was my first thought too.

Drop the R

Top Shop!

Roselilly36 · 22/02/2022 08:01

@DaffodilDandilion

Philip Green
My immediate thought too, it’s a no from me.

Aurelia is a really beautiful name. Why would you be at all concerned about what BJ names his offspring? They are in no way connected to you.

Doidontimmm · 22/02/2022 08:33

My friends daughter is Cadence. She gets called Cady.

Weefreetiffany · 23/02/2022 07:58

@TwirlyWhirly6 surely you must know there’s a fashion of “celebrity” baby name choices becoming popular (Cosmo for example is on the rise) and I wouldn’t want anyone to think I was influenced by that utter black hole of morality and decency to call my child the same thing as they called theirs. Other people may choose differently of course.

How about

Ariadne
Ourania
Calliope
Charis
Aoide

georgarina · 23/02/2022 19:58

Acadia is a beautiful name in my opinion and very close!

Arcadia sounds like a ship or company or something...like The Titanic!

Thoosa · 23/02/2022 19:59

Arcadia is a lot to live up to. This might be one of those hormonal thoughts, TBH. Smile

I think I’m in the minority because I thought of Arcadia the play. Although I’m not sure about Arcadia as a name, I do really love Thomasina! The character was said to be based on Ada Lovelace. I don’t think Thomasina or Ada are very popular at the moment, but very classic sounding.

MajorCarolDanvers · 26/02/2022 09:46

Arcadia sounds like she should be going to Hogwarts. Sorry.

CharacterForming · 26/02/2022 09:55

I also think of the Tom Stoppard play and Rufus Sewell in breeches so I quite like it, but it's not really a human being name.

ClariceQuiff · 26/02/2022 09:59

I loved the band Arcadia in the 80s (they were a Duran Duran splinter-off).
