Arcadia for a girl? Nn Cady

Honest opinions needed as I’m full of the preggo hormones and don’t know if it’s lovely and unusual or verging on the ridiculous!

OH says he will consider it— our surname is two syllables and quite common— We loved Aurelia previously but because of a certain partying politician it’s off the table.

Is it a step too far?

Cadi pronounced similar to Cady is a Welsh girls name, it stems from Catrin / Catherine and quite popular amongst my group of friends and their children (44 to a 3month old)

Arcadia is awful even without the Philip Green connection. Cady, whichever way it is pronounced isn't great either. (It also brings to mind Lindsay Lohan's character in Mean Girls)

Am curious about the need for a nickname? I ask because my name is three syllables and my mum was very clear that was my name and it wasn't to be shortened or a nickname used. Also, surely a nickname should be an organic thing that develops naturally rather than being preconceived/planned.

I studied art history so it reminds me of Nicolas Poussin rather than Philip Green. Feeling so cultured

I like Cady though so would find another names that can be a dim of.

Aurelia is beautiful

I actually like it.

I think of it in the literary/Greek mythological sense of an unspoilt idyl. And as a lot of Greek mythological names are popular now, it seems to fit the moment. It’s a Big name though - like Olympia.

I wouldn’t worry about Philip Green - will be long gone from pop culture by the time she is sentient. However I would give her a straightforward middle name, so she has options.

As a teacher (the relevance being that I encounter many unusual names) I would think of Philip Green. I'd probably avoid it. Why not just Cady?

Not a fan if either tbh, but with Aurelia you do avoid the Philip Green association which can only be a good thing! Also, Arcadia makes me think of arcades, like where people go to win pennies in the penny pusher, which isn't a particularly nice association for me either.

Aurelia is not to my taste, but it doesn't have any negative associations that I can think of off the top of my head

What about Acacia? (A-cay-sha) I think you could use Cady as a nickname for it

I know an Arcadia she's 16 now & while it's just her name now her mother is still ridiculed for it & the other 4 daft names she's given her kids by family, friends & other parents behind her back.

As a pp cady reminds me of mean girls. She spends some time stressing her name isnt Katy

Aurelia is better and an actual name.

She's late teens now.
We pronounce it cay--dee
We love it, it suits her. It means pure happiness.
She has had the usual confusion like Katie, Kayleigh etc but that comes with any unusual name. My sons is unusual too.
