I loved this name with dd1 but didn't use it due to how popular it supposedly was.. that being said 3 children later and I have never met one.
When you hear this name what do you think?

DD(7) has a friend Ruby. I really like it and she's a lovely girl from a lovely family.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 20/02/2022 15:53

My Ruby is 16. Still love it.

OMGItsEarly · 20/02/2022 15:54

I know a 17 year old Ruby but she’s the only one I’ve ever met. It’s lovely.

Mayhemmumma · 20/02/2022 16:04

Really lovely

Universaldebit · 20/02/2022 16:06

The best name . . . Love it. Always sound gorgeous when you say it.

Universaldebit · 20/02/2022 16:08

Oh and there are a few Ruby's at my daughters school in year 7. I dont know of any Ruby's in my Sons school who is in year 4 (and he knows the names of everyone!)

Towardsthenorth · 20/02/2022 16:09

I just don’t like it, sorry, I think you’d always get idiots singing the Kaiser Chiefs at you and I do feel like it’s one of those names that’s very dated - it’s like ruby / Evie / Lola from late 2000s/early 2010s.

Tulips21 · 20/02/2022 16:11

Its not that popular where I live, I know of an 86yr old Ruby and a 8 yr old.
None in my Dc year groups ( Ages late teen, mid teen and 2x under 6)

I did wonder if it may be a little dated now or if goes amongst the traditional names that don't date.

Definitely not dated. Timeless, classic and beautiful

ringoutthebells · 20/02/2022 16:56

I actually think the opposite, have found it a bit over-used in the noughties and heard a lot of it it pronounced 'Rub-ayyyy', like 'Rickayyyy'!

But a friend has now used it for her dd so now it's just her dd. If you love it go for it and it'll just be her.

Justleaveitblankthen · 20/02/2022 17:51

It's a beautiful name and present in my own family.
You certainly won't get folks singing it to you, don't worry about that Hmm

Buddhabowl · 20/02/2022 17:54

I love Ruby. It got VERY popular in the early 2000s. It was the most popular girls name in 2007, so there will be lots of teenage Rubys. I think it sounds quite fresh again now though. It's a bit like Amber and Jasmine IMO, a bit dated but they will always have an appeal and still sound lovely.

Glitterygreen · 20/02/2022 18:00

I love it 😊

ISmellBurnings · 20/02/2022 18:46

I’m a bit bored of it to be honest. There seemed to be tons of Ruby’s around about 10 years ago. Very popular like the Evie/Islas of now.

RedCandyApple · 20/02/2022 18:48

I like it and almost called dd ruby but the midwife said “but that won’t match your other kids names” I think that was her way of saying she didn’t like it and it just put me off 😒

MrsMigginsCat · 20/02/2022 18:52

I love it. It was one of our names for DS, 22, had he been a DD. It's been around a while, but I actually only know one and she's very late 20s now.

Uni90 · 20/02/2022 19:05

Knew a lovely ruby so love it ❤️

DarkCorner · 20/02/2022 19:26

I love it. My DS said there are none that he knows of at his primary school of 300.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/02/2022 19:51

I like it, it’s cheerful and punchy.

It’s not super popular

ParkheadParadise · 20/02/2022 19:54

My great-niece is called Ruby
💕💕💕

Emily6457 · 20/02/2022 23:15

Absolutely love it.

Our dog is Ruby and we regret calling her Ruby as we wanted to use it for our daughters 🤣🎂

DogsAndGin · 23/02/2022 15:24

Love it. Don’t know any. I’m a teacher

IsThePopeCatholic · 23/02/2022 15:55

Love it. Quite edgy.

Thesearmsofmine · 23/02/2022 15:57

I don’t dislike the name but it kind of feels like it’s had it’s moment. It was massively popular 10/11 years ago when dc1 was born.
