I love the name Miles and have for as long as I can remember, however I married a Moores..

Miles Moores? My initial reaction was no, no chance, I can't. But the more I think about it I think actually it's not that bad. It's starting to sound normal albeit a little quirky sounding.

Fully prepared to be told it's terrible and that I'm just desperate to use my favourite name. I'll blame the pregnancy hormones if so Grin

Miles Moore(s) is almost a sentence. Miles More road to travel before we stop for a pee break. So no, I wouldn’t.

Geppili · 24/02/2022 02:35

It is a fantastic name.

Saltyquiche · 24/02/2022 02:45

I like it.

If unsure do Milo moores and use nick name miles

Grasping · 24/02/2022 02:45

Can you double barrel the surname with your maiden name?

Goodluckanddontfuckitup · 24/02/2022 03:03

Comedy name category IMO. I had a 'quirky' name like this before I got married. It stops being fun very quickly and was a daily annoyance.

TigerLilyTail · 24/02/2022 03:13

I also think it sounds like "miles more". It's a bit hard to say. I think there are so many names to chose from, you can find a better fit than Miles.

AlJalilia · 24/02/2022 03:14

Can you hyphenate his surname?

chillied · 24/02/2022 03:18

No sorry I think this would be a bad idea. Too many Ssss. Can you all change your surname?

Plenty of us don't use our favourite names because DH doesn't like them; you will find another name you love.

scatteredglitter · 24/02/2022 03:38

No

Mothership4two · 24/02/2022 04:06

We had a similar problem and we ended up using a different name. I had a name in mind that I loved but it sounded odd. Like Roman Ryman or Wesley Wisely

timestheyarechanging · 24/02/2022 04:24

It's ok, he won't use his surname that much.
Miles is a lovely name and emails etc are far less formal now, first names only are often used in professional comms.
My friend has a Rosie Bush - she's now 21 and it's never been an issue although I did wonder about it years ago!

Goldenharp · 24/02/2022 04:32

It's an awful combination of names and any son will wonder what you were thinking. I don't think you can have a surname and a first name both ending with an S. Pick any first name that doesn't end with an "s" and it will be sound nicer and not expose your son to ridicule.

hattie43 · 24/02/2022 04:46

It's terrible .

NowEvenBetter · 24/02/2022 09:34

‘Won’t use his surname that much’? 🥴 only every day of his life. Miles Of Moores.

Grasping · 24/02/2022 13:48

You could use his middle initial when using his full name. Like George W Bush.

Miles J Moores

NotQuiteNormalMe · 24/02/2022 13:58

Or Miles Nathan Moores, MnM.

TigerLilyTail · 24/02/2022 14:21

Right!? People use their surnames all the time.
MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 24/02/2022 15:06

Miles Moores on this thread and Jonah Jones on another.

No you can't do it to him.

Blubells · 24/02/2022 15:07

Reminds me of David Davis

8lue8ird · 24/02/2022 15:08

I like it

RupertOscar1999 · 24/02/2022 16:26

Miles J Moores

Yes! Having the middle initial makes it flow much better!
BloodyForeland · 24/02/2022 16:32

No, OP, it doesn't work at all. People on here get very exercised about people mispronouncing their children's names, but I think it would be very perverse to give the child two ordinary names which nonetheless, in combination, can't be easily distinguished from one another and will mean he will end up with 'Mile Smoores', 'Smiles Moores', 'Smiles Smoores' etc.

If you love the name, revert to your birth surname and give baby Miles both surnames.

BloodyForeland · 24/02/2022 16:33

So he can be Miles Heaton Moores.

Stripperyone · 24/02/2022 17:29

I think It's fine! :)

Stripperyone · 24/02/2022 17:29
