Hi everyone. I’m expecting my first baby, I do not know the gender yet, but I have put together a list of names I’m considering for a boy and a girl. I really want to narrow it down and eventually have 1 girl name and 1 boy name picked out. I would like to know which name(s) are best and your opinions on each one if possible.

Boy names:
Carter
Logan
Lucas
Crew
Asher
Ash
Flynn
Ayden
August
Ayden
Braxton
Rhett
Rexley

Girl names:
Eliana
Maci
Piper
Ava
Avery
Luna
Darcie
Annora
Addison
Scarlett
Finley
Braelynn
Alana
Lilliana
Delilah
Braylee

You have Ayden twice so maybe go for that one.
I’m sorry but I Only like Luna

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2022 20:53

Boys - I don't mind Logan, Lucas and Flynn
Girls - Ava and Delilah are OK

I guess we just don't have the same taste in names.

You've put Finley in the girls' list, but it's a boys' name. It'd be strange on a girl.

Tsuni · 19/02/2022 21:00

Lucas for a boy.

I don't like any of the girls names but Ava, Delilah and Liliana are the best of the bunch.

Blubells · 19/02/2022 21:05

I like August and Eliana.

PiesNotGuys · 19/02/2022 21:10

Carter - Jim Carter, Downton Abbey, it’s a job/surname,
Logan - Logan Paul, Wolverine, and one in every class at DCs primary.
Lucas - name of a friends DC, cute enough.
Crew - cabin crew, Sara Crewe, it’s a job/surname.
Asher - quite like, maybe a bit too like Usher, perhaps Ashton.
Ash - what’s that short for? In most kids round here it’s short for Ashleigh and she’s a girl.
Flynn - Flynn Rider, tangled.
Ayden - Is this pronounced like Aidan/Aidan? I know several but you might have lifetime spelling issues.
August - cute. Would assume summer born girl. Augustus? Gus?
Braxton - Toni Braxton, Braxton Hicks contractions.
Rhett - Butler. Could be cool?
Rexley - sounds made up. Would mishear as Bexley and think Heath. Dexter?

Girl names:
Eliana - nice enough. Perhaps not keen on ana at the end, in case of L surname.
Maci - I know two, both spelt Macy. Lifetime of ‘Maci with an I’ and getting her coffee spelt Macie or Micy.
Piper - Billie Piper. Piper crisps. Surname.
Ava - sweet but short, nowhere to go really if she doesn’t like. It
Avery - nice enough, would consider this unisex, would expect American.
Luna - I do like Luna but obviously it has the Harry Potter connection and I fear it will date badly.
Darcie - Mr Darcy, Mark Darcy, not an ie.
Annora - sounds like a mash of Ann and Nora, I’d prefer Ann or Nora. Eleanor?
Addison - -son suffixes don’t work for girls, they literally mean son of.
Scarlett - nice, like, know several, Scar is a very problematic shortening thought.
Finley - boys name, know several.
Braelynn - really don’t like at all and dislike the spelling.
Alana - nice, would consider.
Lilliana - nice, would consider.
Delilah - two songs, I’m sure you don’t need me to elaborate.
Braylee - to bray someone is to beat them up, also the noise of a donkey. It’s really not a nice mental image.

I know it’s a boy’s name, but I think it could also work for a girl as it sounds quite feminine.

I meant Finley is a boy name but it can also work for a girl

OP posts:
Blubells · 19/02/2022 21:17

I know a girl Finley.

looloo247 · 19/02/2022 21:18

Flynn and Delilah (or Ava if you don't mind it being very popular)

sprinklyrache · 19/02/2022 21:18

I considered Ashton but I think I prefer Asher.

I like Ayden. I also like Eliana, Lilliana and Alana... I like the 'ana' names! Smile

Kite22 · 19/02/2022 21:27

Erm...don't like any of your boys list, but you have Finley on the girl list, and that is a boy's name and I quite like that.

Girls' list - Ava and Darcie are okay. Not my usual taste but the best from that list.

blameitonthecaffeine · 19/02/2022 21:28

Boy names:
Carter - like it. Very American vibe
Logan - like it. Also makes me think American but maybe a bit less.
Lucas - quite like it. Very solid, 'normal' name.
Crew - not keen. Sounds a bit too 'trying very hard to be cool'.
Asher - quite like it. Another American name, imo.
Ash - don't like it. Seems like an unfinished Asher or Ashley
Flynn - like it. Modern sounding.
Ayden - love it but I would spell it Aiden or Aidan personally.
August - not keen. Seems feminine to me though I know it isn't.
Braxton - Ok. Knew one years ago but hadn't come across it before.
Rhett - Gone with the Wind. But I think I'd like it otherwise.
Rexley - Never heard of this. Seems like a cross between Rex and Ashley/Bradley. Not keen.

Girl names:
Eliana - like it. Pretty and more unusual than Ellie/Eleanor
Maci - quite like it. American vibe.
Piper - love it. Also quite American, I think.
Ava - really like it. Very popular if that bothers you.
Avery - love it. Another American sounding name.
Luna - quite like it. Possible 'Loony Lovegood' associations.
Darcie - like it. Prefer the spelling Darcey personally.
Annora - Never heard of this name. Sounds like A Nora so not sure.
Addison - like it. Unisex? Maybe more female in America.
Scarlett - quite like it.
Finley - boys' name? Maybe unisex in the US
Braelynn - don't like it. Only come across it in America.
Alana - like it.
Lilliana - it's ok. Would inevitably become Lily? Very popular.
Delilah - not keen.
Braylee - same as Braelynn. US prefix and suffix mix and match name.

It occurred to me half way down as I wrote 'American name' for the millionth time that you probably are in fact American!

My favourites are Flynn/Ayden and Piper/Avery

I love August and Delilah 🥰

Tulips21 · 19/02/2022 21:43

I only like Lucas from your Boys list.

Girls~ Maci but I would apell - Macie, Darcie and Alana

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/02/2022 21:54

For a boy I like Lucas best, August and Flynn are ok. The rest are mostly too made up/faddy for me.

For girls, Ava is lovely, Delilah ok, Alana just about. The rest are again mostly too made up / faddy for me.

mathanxiety · 19/02/2022 22:33

For boys:
Lucas
Asher
August

I don't like the rest at all.

Buttons294749 · 19/02/2022 22:34

I love Rhett and eliana

mathanxiety · 19/02/2022 22:34

For girls:
Avery
Annora
Alana

Not keen on the rest.

mathanxiety · 19/02/2022 22:35

Braylee and Braelynn are awful.

Aquamarine1029 · 19/02/2022 22:36

Rhett and Avery.

WeasilyPleased · 19/02/2022 22:41

Asher and Alana are my faves. Asher is biblical not American as a pp said and I prefer the Alannah spelling but both good names.

Chasingthewind11 · 19/02/2022 22:45

I love August & Asher! The rest of the boys names seem quite American to me August was on my list but DH vetoed it

deadlanguage · 19/02/2022 22:51

Lucas and Ava would be my top choices. Rexley, Braelynn and Braylee sound like what someone would come up with as a joke when talking about keyboard smash names.

curlingoneout · 19/02/2022 22:56

I like Avery and Finley for a boy
Addison is a disease
