Hi there
Would love love love input and help!
My second D was born last Thursday and my husband and I are getting no where with names. I like strong, masculine female names, he likes more traditional girly names.

My favourite names: Dillon, Sidney, Margot, Riley, Rafa. His favourite names Isabella, Emilia, Katherine

We had agreed on Frances, Robyn, Leonie and potentially Emilia, but we know a few Emmes already and that means that nickname is taken. Other names I liked Riley, River, Leila, Suki, Sylvie, Adeline, Leila, Lila, Orla, and Margot, but DH not keen on many of these.

I wanted something that could be strong and powerful, I’m an Alex and love having a unisex name, and added complication is that DD2 looks like my father in law and I feel she needs a strong name to pull off her strong features!

All help welcome, really need to decide and update people asap

Briar

KirstenBlest · 16/02/2022 12:57

So you had Bower.

I don't like Blair(e) - sounds masculine and too like Blare

Maybe Wilson, Heath or Callaghan
Macmillan nn Milly or Attlee

KirstenBlest · 16/02/2022 12:58

Missed a comma there, Attlee would be a strange nn for Macmillan

WalkingOnSonshine · 16/02/2022 12:59

I love Billie for a girl.

Yika · 16/02/2022 13:01

I like Frances, Robyn and Leonie, all gorgeous names and suit both a baby and an adult.

What about
Briar
Leigh
Martha

Maireas · 16/02/2022 13:03

If you like Prime Minister's names, does it have to be post war?
Asquith
Baldwin
Balfour
Campbell Bannerman (NN Manni)

Maireas · 16/02/2022 13:05

@KirstenBlest

Attlee could be shortened to Lee. Macmillan to Mac - didn't Private Eye call him Supermac?.

I also like strong names. Some suggestions -

Vivienne or Vivien
Marian or Marion
Helen
Harriet
Juno
Aphra
Seren
Leonora (Leo for short)

Sexnotgender · 16/02/2022 13:20

What about Harriet with Harry as a nickname?

DonnyBurrito · 16/02/2022 13:27

Rona

Notwithittoday · 16/02/2022 13:28

I think Robyn is nice

Sunshinehouse · 16/02/2022 13:29

Wow some wonderful feedback and suggestions here, thank you so much! I think Frances or Robyn seems strong popular choices, which is reassuring.

I like the Francesca suggestion. Girly but with some strength to it. He can call her Cesca/Chessie and you can have Frank/Frankie

Good choices! Neither are likely to date, both strong.
Sunshinehouse · 16/02/2022 14:52

@Glitterygreen good luck with establishing a name for your LO, the struggle is real!

Persephone/Percy
or
Hermione/Oni

PiesNotGuys · 16/02/2022 15:34

I like Frances or Robyn, but I would be a little put off that they have different spellings to indicate girl. It’s like male-as-default. Open to misspelling, and doesn’t fulfil the unisex potential of the name when written.

Here are some unisex names I like
Eden
Daryl
Remy
Billie or Lou (could be short for something else)
Morgan
Drew
Marley

Some names I consider strong female names
Athena
Eleanor
Leona
Astrid
Juno
Rosamund
Rosalind

Shadappayourface · 16/02/2022 16:03

I love Dillon!

Mumofgirls2017 · 16/02/2022 21:47

Charlotte (Charlie)
Eden (Edie)
Piper
Francesca (Frankie)
Aurora (Rory)
Rowan
Quinn
Remy

ExactlyThat · 16/02/2022 21:50

Piper.

RupertOscar1999 · 16/02/2022 21:56

Congratulations!
Penelope... And also has lovely nn Poppy, Polly, Penny or Nellie

CaliFrown · 16/02/2022 22:03

@Aquamarine1029

Camdyn
You have to be joking. Browne, Sloane and Jaime are (almost) in the same bracket.

OP, Riley is awful.

Don't use a surname as a first name, whatever you do. I'd also avoid the MN favourite Wren. Not sure why nobody ever suggests Thrush.

There really are some shockers on there, but all the other names which are actual names would be fine.
